Smart Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

Keeping up with a working out routine is hard. So many things come in the way of that, from a busy schedule to a very low energy, to health issues, and who knows what else. The bottom line is that there is no shortage of excuses when it comes to not exercising anymore. So, for those who want to keep exercising despite all these great excuses, what is the key? The good news is that there are plenty of ways in which you can motivate yourself, thus increasing the likelihood of keeping up with that great routine.

Do Something You Like

“How very obvious”, you may be thinking. However, it is shocking to find out the number of people who start off a routine that they don’t like, simply because their friend is doing it, or they read about it online, or who knows what other “great” reason. The problem is that regardless of how wonderful that fitness program is, how much science went into it, and how many great results it had, if you don’t like it, the likelihood of you enjoying its benefits are slim. Why? Because you’re probably going to quit it before you see any results. Therefore, you should be sure to find something that you truly love, as that will fill you with excitement, and keep you going.

Have a Great Playlist

Funny how something as seemingly insignificant as music can motivate you to keep going when all you really want to do is curl up in a ball and cry. Indeed, before heading out to the gym, or for that lovely run, make sure you have a playlist with songs that are upbeat and that you love.

Real Reward

Working outcomes with plenty of benefits, like getting in better shape, improving your health, and helping you live a longer life. That’s wonderful, but the issue with these rewards is that they’re not going to be felt for a while, which is why they don’t work when it comes to motivation. Therefore, it’s a great idea to give yourself a reward that feels real. This may mean making yourself a great smoothie or watching an episode of your favorite TV show. Even getting some awesome workout clothes can work as a reward.

Cost

You know what’s a great motivator? Money! Well, sadly, no one is probably going to pay you to keep up with your routine, but you can make it so that if you don’t do it, it will mean you’re wasting money. How? Get gym membership for a few months ahead. Or pay for workout classes ahead of time. This way, if you don’t go, you will be feeling guilty not only because you didn’t keep that promise to yourself, but also because you wasted some money.

Store Weights Near the Couch

You know when it’s a great time to exercise? When you’re sitting on the couch watching TV.  This may feel silly, but if you have the weights on hand, it’s going to be a whole lot easier to pick them up and do a few simple exercises. This way, you’re combining a great activity, like watching TV, with a healthy one.

Keeping yourself motivated to workout can be tricky, but there are a few different techniques you can try until you find the ones that really work for you.
