Secure a Space for Your Dog Through These 4 Essential Tips

Most of us are well too familiar with the crushing heartbreak of leaving your best friend behind. One can only imagine the emotional burden we put on our dogs when we leave them all lonely and bored at home. So what can you do to keep your dog happy, peaceful and entertained while you’re away? Easy, build a friendly, comfortable place for your pet dog to relax and play about so those excruciating hours will pass without him noticing.

How do you go about this task you ask? Read on to find out how you can create a nice chill spot for your dog.

1. Designate the Space (Choose a Nice Space for the Dog)

The first step is finding a nice, cozy space where your new dog will call its area. It doesn’t have to be an entire room, even a walk-in closet or a corner in the living room will do just fine. You can use a playpen or a wooden pet gate as a boundary to enclose your dog when you’re not around. These temporary enclosures will stop your dog from messing around your stuff while you’re away and, god-forbid, pooing all over the house. The boundaries can easily be removed and put away when you get home.

Some dogs even prefer smaller spaces reminiscent of their ancestors’ dens in the earlier days. A simple dog crate fitted out with all the toys and pillows your dog requires will work like magic. Pitbulls are quite strong so specially designed Cages for Pit Bulls are also an excellent choice since they are sturdy yet inexpensive. Just ensure the crate is comfortable and isn’t too cramped up for your pet.

2. Set Up Your Dog’s Space

Once your doggy space is in place, take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of your pet and your household items by keeping kids’ toys, clothes and electric cables away from the designated area. Dog’s are natural vagabonds and so a cozy, snug bed should be next on your list. After putting the bed in place, add a water bowl to keep your dog hydrated at all times and a food bowl to make sure doggo is never hungry. Finally, place your trash cans outside or better yet, purchase the dog-proof variants to make sure doggo doesn’t do some messy exploring in the garbage.

3. Accessorize

Accessorize with play toys and furnish the space with various pet decor available online. Moreover, Just like physical exercise, mental exercises are just as crucial for the growth and development of your dog. Mental toys will do a great job of keeping your dog occupied and happy at the same time. Puzzles like seek-a-treat are great for dogs and will keep them busy for hours. Your dog’s favorite stuffed toy or ball could also work as long as they play within their designated space. Be creative with decorations and maybe throw in your t-shirt to give your pet a piece of you whenever you are away.

4. Introduce the Dog to his Space

The best part of setting up your dog’s space is the grand reveal. If you have keenly followed these steps, then your pet is bound to be overjoyed with the new space. If the fella isn’t pleased, try sprucing the space a bit and tweaking a few things here and there. Your dog is your best friend after all, and you should know him inside out.

With these four tips in mind, you are well on your way to creating the perfect sanctuary for your dog. Most of these items can be purchased online or at your local pet store. The most important factor, however, is not restricting your dog’s freedom too much but just enough to keep things in order around the house. Success in building your new dog’s home.
