Panettone an Italian Christmas Tradition

Have you heard of Panettone If you’re of Italian decent, then I’m guessing you have. Being of Polish roots, this dessert was new to me, so when I found it, I had to do some research. I must “know all the things!”

Panettone an Italian Christmas Tradition

Recently I stumbled upon Giusto Sapore’s Panettone. It’s an Italian Christmas sweet bread that was originally enjoyed by only the wealthy and aristocratic families. That’s because it took a very long time to make, and the ingredients were costly. However, with bakeries like Giusto Sapore making this tasty treat, now anyone can enjoy it.

Panettone is baked in a certain shape. As per tradition it is shaped like a cupola which means its dome-shaped. These breads are also quite large in size too. The one I got for my family actually weighs two pounds! Oh, and after it’s baked, they hang it upside to preserve the dome-shaped top. How neat is that?

Traditionally it was served in Italy as breakfast. Many toasted it and then dusted it with powdered sugar. From what I’ve learned people even used it to make a sweet french toast, (which sounds amazing to me!)

What’s Inside?

Yummy goodness! That’s what’s inside! This sweet bread is studded with candied fruits. The bread itself is made of butter and stuffed with raisins and candied orange peel. It smells like Christmas! Or at least what Christmas smells like to me.

I may not be Italian, but I’m enjoying my Panettone. I think for breakfast tomorrow, I may toast it under the broiler, and while its toasting, make a sugar glaze. Then I’ll drizzle it over the slices and serve it to my family. That sound yummy, and now I can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow!
