What You Should Know Before Buying a Bar Stool

Any kitchen has or should have at least one bar stool. This type of furniture has become quite often found in kitchens everywhere since they are very useful and allow you to have company over in the kitchen. If you’re thinking of buying some new chairs or replacing the old ones, then there are some things you should take into account.

Height

Height is one of the most important things to consider when buying a bar stool. There are three types of stools: counter (24-26 inches height), bar (30 inches height) and spectator (34-36 inches tall). There are also adjustable stools which you can use, and honestly, these are the best when it comes to moving from one house to another.

Materials

In general, a brushed stainless steel stool works better for a lot of styles and homes, which is why it would be a good investment. Leather counter stools offer a more modern look, so they may not be appropriate for any kind of style. If you want an adaptable furniture, you can also choose to mix materials, such as a combination of walnut and chrome. Another blend you can go for is the vintage industrial style. Rough textures, such as unpolished wood, goes well with modern lines and minimalism. Bar furniture outdoors can be taken into consideration as well.

Comfort

Comfort, of course, depends on your personal choices, but it is important to think about who will actually use the chairs. If you have children or elders around, then you should consider safe and comfortable ones. Children often tend to lean back and rock the chair, and if the stool is quite high, it might become dangerous. Likewise, elderly people may find it hard to climb on a high stool, so take that into account as well.

Pay attention to details

In case the chair may be uncomfortable, you can also add some tie-on cushions, for example. These are extremely cozy and look cute, plus you can wash them easily. However, they may also represent a danger to children, since they can easily slide or be untied. You can take advantage of them and complement your design in the kitchen.

Another detail which you should be paying attention to is represented by the footrests. These are especially important if your guests would spend much time on the bar stools. It’s not too comfortable to have your feet dangling from the stool for hours in a row if you’ve invited them over to see a football match, for example. Moreover, this is a great opportunity to use other materials that could complement the final look of the room.

To sum up, it’s important to take into account the height of the stool, its material, style and the level of comfort it offers.
