Keep Your Motorcycle Journeys Safe with These Top Tips

If you love nothing more than spending your weekends on your motorcycle visiting unfamiliar places around the country, it’s always important to travel in a responsible manner to ensure you and other drivers are safe on the roads. If you’re looking for tips to help keep your motorcycle journeys safe, the following points are effective in ensuring yours and others safety, while keeping your ride enjoyable.

Wear the Right Protective Equipment

The obvious tip to consider before getting on your bike and heading off somewhere idyllic is to ensure you’re wearing the right protective equipment. You’ll need to have your motorcycle helmets on as standard, and if you’re carrying another passenger ensure they are also properly equipped. Also, good leathers will also make your experience safe and enjoyable, making sure your skin is protected from the heat of the exhaust and the risk of coming off on the tarmac, etc.

Ride Responsibly

You can still enjoy a good motorcycle ride by sticking to the speed limits and being responsible in horrible weather conditions. Not only will you be able to enjoy the journey more, but you’ll also stay safe. However it’s not just you on the road, so you should consider other people that aren’t driving responsibly too. If the weather isn’t nice or it’s too windy, you could always consider having a weekend off and riding the weekend after. You can always reschedule.

Check Your Motorcycle Before Riding

Make a checklist of important parts to check before setting off on your journey. It’s always important you do a safety check, and you should have a look at any parts that may need fixing before heading off. There’s nothing worse than a part failing on your bike when you’re halfway to your destination, so it’s important you check the bike thoroughly before riding. Always check the tire pressure, oil and gas to make sure you have enough to reach your end destination.

Don’t Ride if You’re Not Confident

Only undertake long journeys if you’re confident in your riding ability and are confident in the bike you are riding. If you find you lack confidence, then it is time to build it by taking short adventures around known locations. Once your confidence starts to build, slowly elongate your journey’s until you start feeling confident enough for full weekend trips.

Only Ride When You’re Comfortable

If you feel uncomfortable wearing safety equipment because it’s not the right size or because the bike doesn’t feel right, make sure you don’t ride until you’re completely comfortable when seated. Buy new equipment before setting off on any journey, as you never know the dangers you could face.

Some of the above points are obvious, but they need to be strongly considered before hopping on a motorcycle full stop.
