For instance, for most international schools in Singapore, they have designed an efficient speed reading technique that will allow students to finish and understand a text fast. Here are three primary methods that you can go over with your child:
- Skim Through The Text First – skim through the text with your kids and ask them to write down keywords and phrases being talked about in the text. Check how the article is written, how it transitions from one thought to another, and get an idea of what the content is about
- Have A Clear Purpose For Reading – they can ask themselves what they hope to learn from the text, if they agree with it, or if they have additional ideas that may supplement the author’s text
- Summarize Ideas In Your Own Words – involves pointing out keywords and concepts, and then discussing them in a bite-sized form in their own words. For this one, allow your kids to use words they would normally use when they talk to friends
