Have a Hot Toddy on Valentine’s Day

If you haven’t started thinking about putting in a reservation for your favorite romantic restaurant, now would be the time do so. Whether you plan to stay in or go out, I have a simple drink recipe using David Nicholson Reserve Bourbon to help keep you cozy.

Hot Toddy

A hot toddy is a beverage mixed with honey, hot water, either whiskey, brandy, or rum. You can add lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, or cloves to the hot toddy. Some people drink it because they are sick and others drink it for enjoyment. Here is a quick recipe for a hot toddy.

HOT TODDY
1 oz David Nicholson® Reserve
1 tbsp mild honey
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
¼ cup boiling water

Directions:
Put bourbon, honey, and lemon juice in a 6–ounce mug. Top off with hot water and stir until honey is dissolved.

The hot toddy is a great a drink on cold nights. It is also a great way to warm up after you come home from your Valentine’s date.

David Nicholson® Reserve

David Nicholson legacy was born in 1843 at a St. Louis store, where owner, David Nicholson, sold his “43” recipe. David created a bourbon recipe that has been unaltered for almost two centuries. Many may know about the David Nicholson 1843 bourbon, but there is also the David Nicholson Reserve. The David Nicholson Reserve is a bourbon that uses rye as its secondary grain. It is a mash bill of corn, malt, and rye.

Have a Hot Toddy on Valentine’s Day

Name: David Nicholson Reserve
Proof: 100% proof / 50% ABV
Eye: Caramel color
Age: NAS – No age statement.
Nose: Earthy with hints of oak, caramel, and vanilla.
Taste: Rich, smoky, spicy. Hints of vanilla and oak.
Finish: Long, spicy, sweet

This is a really good, smooth Bourbon. I like that it has some heat, but still has a sweet flavor too. The flavor combination of earthiness, sweet, fruity, and spicy work well together. You can use it to cook with or use it to make cocktails. If you are looking for a great baking recipe to make for your love one, you can try bourbon caramel dark chocolate truffles.
