Finding Your Groove – How to Settle Into a New Neighborhood

You never reach an age when being the new kid on the block becomes easy. Adulthood only adds more factors to the equation, and when faced with entering a new neighborhood, there are things you can be doing to ensure a seamless entry and give you peace of mind.

Finding Your Groove

Seamless arrival

Your feelings of nervousness can be overshadowed quite quickly by the daunting task of moving home. Finding a reliable removalist in Melbourne is going to get you where you need to go as efficiently as possible… with your sanity intact. Try and get the keys early so that you can stagger your move in; a day for getting the items in (why do I have so much stuff?), a day for unpacking (do I need to buy more stuff?) and the final day for tidying (nope, definitely got enough stuff).

Always allow for more time than you need, because those incidentals are inevitable when you pack up your home and take it somewhere new. Getting the experts to help you move in will also show your new neighbors how you roll, measured and meticulous.

Survey before you play

I know, I know. Moving into a new home is a blank canvas of opportunity, and sitting on your hands and doing nothing? No way! But there is a sense in sitting back and not making any drastic changes to your interior and exterior until you get the vibe of the neighborhood. You would hate to make a fatal design mistake because you were impatient. What may come to you in a vision on your first day in the new pad might actually be entirely wrong for your home and the neighborhood after you live there for a little bit longer.

Take a drive around your area and make note of what you like and what you don’t. While no one is suggesting that you take the cookie cutter approach and replicate your neighbors home entirely, remember that the best streets stick to a character code and no one likes “that house”. Come on, you know the one in your neighborhood.

Control your introduction

Wondering what they think of you? Well go and find out. Control how your neighbors meet you, and make it a friendly encounter that they won’t forget. It couldn’t hurt to turn up with a potted plant or some baked goodies made from a family recipe. Traditionally the new kid on the block is the one of greeting the well-wishers, but to avoid waiting for them to make the first move – get in their first! And you never know. When you new couch arrives next week, Jim from across the road might even give you a hand.

Travel by foot

Leave your keys at home because we are going off-track, baby. This is your new home and how else to settle in than by covering every inch of it upfront and personal. Work out where you will do your grocery shop, where you’ll get your ice-cream and which café serves the best-smashed avo. Driving through your neighborhood will make it whip by, and you will miss the smells, sounds and potential exercise tracks that surround you. It will also facilitate many opportunities to get to know the people you are sharing your neighborhood with.

Ah, moving. It’s equal parts stressful and exciting, but all comes down to being prepared enough to enlist removalists. Once your items are in you can start to explore the builds and look of your neighborhood, meet the locals and make your way around on foot taking it all in.

spot on!! moving homes is stressful , specially someone like me with kids and pets!! most challenging part was to find a right removalist , we have obtained quotes from multiple , some of them were good but no insurance and flexibility. Some were good with insurance but not cheaper!! i guess its bit of a gamble to choose a right one , we ended up using a shipping container moving company , they gave 24 days free hire etc , despite of packing by ourselves , rest was a good experience and items were not broken!!
