If you look at some articles about wellness, you might get the idea that you would need the time and money for a month-long meditation retreat or the ability to follow the exact same rigorous schedule every day to improve your life.
It can be easy to forget that wellness is all about improving the quality of your life, and one of the operative words there is “your.”
In other words, this is all about what works for you.

Maybe a green smoothie every morning is the answer for your best friend, but if you tried it and hated the taste or disliked anything else you became convinced was central to wellness, don’t worry.
The key to improving your quality of life is figuring out what that means to you.
The Small Things
Do not underestimate the basics. Getting enough sleep, getting up from your computer and taking a walk, and eating nutritious food can go a long way toward improving your overall well-being.
Connecting with people in your life who are important to you matters as well.
You don’t have to sign up for a triathlon or put yourself on a strict eating regimen, but you may be surprised at how some small changes applied consistently can help you realize your dreams and improve your overall well-being.
Your Dreams
There is more to life than getting enough sleep, so once you are feeling less run down, it is time to dig deeper and figure out what will make you feel really fulfilled.
A great way to do this is to go back to your childhood and think about what you dreamed of then.
Maybe you wanted to run an animal rescue or sing on stage.
Could you start by finding volunteer opportunities for you and your pet, or getting involved in community theater?
If childhood doesn’t provide any clues, look to the present. The idea is to figure out what gives you a genuine sense of joy.
Your Obstacles
It is not always as easy as figuring out what you want and going for it.

Money and time are both common obstacles. You might not be looking to access personal wealth simply because you might not realize you have any, but you may be surprised.
If you no longer need your life insurance policy, you may be able to sell it.
You can read about a life settlement and how and why to sell your policy.
You could also consider selling your vehicle and driving something cheaper. If it’s more time you need, practice saying no to things you don’t really want to do.
Practical Application
An important way to think about how to integrate the things that bring you joy into your life is to remember that doing so is a matter of small steps every day.
If you know that getting up early makes you feel better than hitting the snooze over and over, you can’t wait to become a person who gets up early.
You have to just do it. This applies to anything as well.
It’s the small consistent efforts more than the giant gestures that will eventually help you build a life that you love.
