Creating a Family Friendly Bathroom on a Budget

Those with a family know only too well how important the bathroom is in the house. You need something that is both family friendly and a relaxing haven, without costing a fortune. Seems like an impossible task right? Not exactly! Here’s how you can create a bathroom that’s perfect for the whole family, on a budget.

Do-It-Yourself

The best way to cut costs on your new bathroom is by doing what you can yourself. Unless you’re a trained plumber chances are you’re not going to be able to do it all on your own. However, there are some things you’ll be able to DIY. The painting and decorating can be done over a quiet weekend. You can even rip out the old furniture before the plumbers come in. Just make sure you’re not going to pull out anything important and flood the bathroom! Make a note of all the things you want to do yourself, and then find a professional to do the rest.

Save on Materials

There are plenty of different ways you can save on the materials needed for your new bathroom. Consider upcycling some of the furniture around your house, to turn it into something unique for the bathroom. Reclamation yards are also a great place to find old tiles and panels, for walls and floors. Buy what you can second-hand and save your money for the more important things.

Universal Design

If you’re not planning on selling and see where you’re living as a family home, then consider a ‘universal design’ for your new bathroom. This is where everything has been carefully planned out to cater for the young and old. This is also a good idea for anyone with a physical limitation. You should leave enough space for a wheelchair and opt for bathroom suites which are going to be easy to use. Even as you age. Look for easy access bathroom sets from places such as Bella Bathrooms and plan for the future. This will save you a fortune in refurbishments over the years.

Eco-Friendly and Purse Friendly

Consider eco-friendly options for your bathroom suite, to cut down costs in the long term. Your bathroom can use up a lot of water, especially when you have kids. With everyone needing a bath at different times and flushing the toilet 20+ times a day, your water bill can skyrocket. Opt for eco-friendly toilets with efficient flushes. Along with water-saving devices for your faucets and showers.

Relaxing Haven

For most parents, there’s nothing better than relaxing in the bath after a long, hard day. While you may be thinking about creating somewhere family-friendly, also consider how your bathroom can work for you. Invest in some bathroom storage so that all of the toys and kiddy products can be hidden away when you’re having ‘me time’. Have a basket of your favourite products and some candles, hidden away to be used only by you. There’s no harm in treating yourself every now and then!

By following these great tips, you can create a bathroom that is both family friendly and purse friendly. Maybe even a little bit eco-friendly too. Not only that, but it will still be a great space for you to relax (when you get the chance)!
