Buying a Rabbit: Must-Have Items You Will Need

Buying a Rabbit is an exciting experience, but you need to make sure you’re ready for your new pet before you bring it home. The last thing you want is to buy a one and then have nowhere to put it or nothing to feed it. If you’re ready to add a fur baby to your family, then here are a few must-have items you will need.

Housing

Your rabbit will need a place to live, which is why housing is one of the top must-have items you will need before you buy one. Depending on what you want, you can opt for something smaller like a cage or something larger like a hutch. Either way, make sure the rabbit housing is safe and meets the minimum size requirements.

Food

Before your rabbit comes home, you’ll need to be prepared to feed it. Rabbits require a diverse diet and should include such staples as pellets, hay, and fresh veggies. You will need to stock up on these items so that you can feed it a balanced diet each day.

Food & Water Dish

Don’t forget you’ll need something to put the food in! Before buying a rabbit, find a heavy food and water dish. You’ll want it to be heavy-duty so that your new rabbit doesn’t tip it over and spill food and water all over its clean cage. If you’re worried about a water dish spilling or getting dirty, you might want to look into a water bottle that attaches to the side of the cage. This keeps the water fresh and will prevent it from spilling.

Litter Box & Litter

This might surprise you, but rabbits can easily be litter trained! If you’re buying a rabbit, you’ll want to buy a litter box and rabbit-safe litter so that you can train your new pet to use it. Litter training your pet will help keep your rabbit’s housing clean and will prevent it from making little messes around the house.

Toys

Your rabbit is just like any other pet, such as a cat or dog. That means your new pet will want to be entertained. To help keep your rabbit active and prevent it from getting bored (and destructive!), invest in some rabbit-safe toys. Your pet will love playing with these!

Carrier

The last thing you’ll need in order to bring home your new pet is a pet carrier! You’ll need a small pet carrier to help transport your rabbit from the pet store to your new home. This carrier will also come in handy for those trips to the vet. Make sure you find one that is the appropriate size for your rabbit.

Now that you have all of the must-have items you’ll need for your new rabbit, it’s time to head to the store. This is the fun part of buying a new pet. Happy searching!
