Benefits Of Having A Garage

Did you know that the word “garage” originates from the French word “garer,” which means to shelter.

The first home garages were built in the 1920s. It was during this period that the sale of cars really took off, with the passing of the Federal Road Act and the Federal Highway Act.

Those garages looked like sheds, they were tiny and not very durable.

But all aspects of garages, including door openers and installation have come a long way since then all across America, including in Addison.

Today, garages have automatic doors, which can be controlled by Wi-Fi, are insulated and made of highly durable materials, say J&J Garage Door and Electric Openers, garage door repair specialists in Addison.

Benefits Of Having A Garage

The popularity of these doors has also grown so much that in 2017, 66% of all occupied home units had a garage, according to the US Bureau of the Census 2017. S,o, what makes garages so popular?

Here are some reasons.

Protects Your Car

The most obvious benefit of having a garage is that your car has a home too! Parking your car outside can shorten its life.

If you live in a place that sees extreme weather conditions, here’s how it can affect your car:

  • With increase in temperature, the water in the battery starts to evaporate. This leaves the plates of lead exposed, rendering your battery useless.
  • A hot engine requires more lubricant to run smoothly.
  • Gas also evaporates quickly in heat. By parking your car in a garage, you would be able to improve the fuel economy.
  • Cold weather can lead to thickening of the car fluids, such as anti-freeze, oil and transmission fluid. This makes the fluids more viscus and affects the performance of your car.
  • Low temperatures can also reduce the capacity of your battery to start the car.

Adds Storage Space

Having a garage provides you additional storage space. And in urban areas, where houses can be a bit smaller, this can mean the world.

You can store items that may be used in a different season or keep things that might otherwise make the living spaces look cluttered.

This makes your house look much more organized.

Offers Flexibility

Another benefit of garages is that they are highly flexible. You are never stuck with one! In case you are have a garage that is not used very often, you can easily convert it into a living space or an office.

Garages are almost completely empty, giving you the freedom to mold them into your perfect living space.

In addition, converting your garage into a living space can also increase the resale value of your house by up to 15%.

Can be Used as a Second Entrance

Your garage can also act as a second entrance to your home. This can be extremely beneficial when you might want to carry some heavy groceries or other stuff from your car to the house.

The garage shortens this distance. Plus, in case it is raining or snowing, carrying heavy stuff outside can be dangerous as well.

Apart from these benefits, a garage can also act as your workshop, home gym or even a greenhouse.

It's interesting to know some of the benefits of having a garage. I've been looking for a construction contractor for garages online since we'd like to add one to our home. Aside from it protects the car, I like what you said that it provides additional storage space to make the house look organized.
