3 Possible Reasons Why You Sweat Excessively While Sleeping And What To Do About It

Night sweats affect both sexes equally, and also children and the elderly.

However, it does not necessarily mean that the cause of night sweats is always a condition or illness, but simply a reaction of the body to too much heat, stress, or the environment in which you sleep.

In most cases, night sweats are manifested in 3 ways.

It can be when you wake up in a wardrobe soaked in sweat, to have occasional hot flashes, or to make your body or face red because you are too hot.

Frequent waking up during the night, tossing and turning on the bed and inability to fall asleep quickly can be classified as “sleep problems”.

If it becomes a chronic problem, constant fatigue and poor quality sleep can negatively affect the physical and mental health of the whole organism.

However, although chronic fatigue can have consequences for human health, sometimes night sweats are just an inconvenience that goes away on its own.

Of course, if this is a big problem for you, you should consult with the chosen doctor and seek professional advice.

Alcohol

If you have consumed alcohol before bed, it is very likely that you will have a problem with excessive sweating.

It affects the central nervous system, acts as a stimulant for the heart that dilates blood vessels, and thus leads to accelerated heart rate, which can raise body temperature.

The liver metabolizes most of the alcohol in the body, 10% is excreted through urine, breath, and perspiration, so sweating does not play a big role in expelling alcohol from the body.

However, dehydration is directly related to the excessive amount of alcohol we take into the body.

When the body does not have enough water, it happens to the heart it starts working faster so the body heats up faster, which can cause sweating.

Excessive Stress

The anxiety we feel everyday can cause the body to warm up at night due to excessive nervousness, and to wake up more often and have unconnected, strange dreams.

Many people complain that they have trouble sleeping precisely because we are constantly worried about the new situation with the pandemic, so it can be reflected and on sleep quality.

Currently, there is such a period when we are often locked in the house, and we do not move as much as we normally do, so that can also contribute to stress and nervousness, which is manifested by sweating, insomnia, and obsessive thoughts.

Take time for yourself before bed to take a shower, read a book that interests you or meditate, but avoid spending too much time in front of the screen.

Create a sleeping atmosphere – that is, without loud noises, the temperature should be optimal for sleeping (15-19 degrees) and mute or turn off the lights.

Talk to someone before bed if you have problems at work, or private problems, but don’t let stress build up and accumulate over a long period of time.

If you are chronically sleep deprived, and you have also noticed that you have been losing weight faster than usual lately, or you have some similar accompanying symptoms, talk to your doctor about what your next step is.

Poor Sleeping Equipment

We have already said that you should pay attention to the room temperature, but also the clothes in which you sleep and what kind of mattress you have.

Breathable mattress, or which is made of poor quality material can affect night sweats, because cheap synthetic materials in the memory foams retain heat and cannot quickly regulate humidity.

For instance, for sleeping on hot summer nights you’ll have to open the windows while you sleep and get a fan if you don’t mind the noise.

Invest in a quality mattress, pillow and mattress, to make sure it is not a problem in the environment. And choose materials for pajamas, bedding and pillowcases.

Many people claim that they sleep easier and better in colder rooms.

Nothing can replace high-quality sleep, so it is important not to allow this to turn into a chronic problem.

If you experience excessive sweating as a symptom, it doesn’t necessarily immediately mean that you are ill or that something is serious.

Sometimes it is enough to buy a better quality mattress, change your pajamas and reduce stress and alcohol before bed.
