4 Ways To Choose A House Painter You Can Truly Trust

Generally speaking, most people find house painting a dreadfully tedious obligation. It is usually a boring and messy labour-intensive chore that steals away precious time from far more enjoyable activities.

Luckily, commercial painters take pride in making your house look its best and are always ready and willing to help; for a very reasonable sum! They’ll also finish the job far more quickly than the average homemaker. Knowing a few straight forward tips makes choosing the right house painter a simple, straightforward task.

  • Use Highly Experienced Painters

The most important thing to consider when choosing a house painter is their level of experience and expertise. There are plenty of substandard operators out there trying to pass themselves off as qualified tradespeople.

Painting is a much-valued profession that involves all kinds of inside knowledge, training, and experience to fully master. Painting is a recognized trade that is ideally learned through an apprenticeship under the close tuition of a master painter and decorator.

Before agreeing to have your home painted, be sure to ask what qualifications and level of experience the contractor you are considering using brings to the job. Don’t be afraid to ask to see papers that prove what they say and if you get the sense you are dealing with a fast-talking shyster then look elsewhere for someone more trustworthy.

  • Reliability is the Key

One of the most common complaints customers have regarding tradespeople is that they can be notoriously unreliable in terms or arriving on time and starting and finishing when they say they will. It is always a positive sign if your calls are returned promptly and communication is courteous and professional. Your time is just as valuable as the painters so if you make an appointment for a quote, be sure that the arrangement is kept and don’t accept excuses if your prospective painter cancels, doesn’t arrive when agreed or makes repeated excuses.

It’s true that circumstances can change and plans sometimes need adapting but take it as a red flag if your painter doesn’t follow through with mutual agreements. Apart from being disrespectful, this behavior bodes poorly in terms of a satisfying final outcome.

  • A Fixed Quote for Peace of Mind

When possible, get a written fixed quote for the entire job rather than an overall hourly rate. Professional painters are good at estimating how much to charge based on how long a job will take. The quote will naturally vary depending on the amount of prep work required, chosen materials and how large, straight forward or complicated the job is.

Unscrupulous operators will offer a ball park estimate at an hourly rate and then work at a slower pace in order to bump up the price. A fixed quote keeps everyone on the same page without any nasty surprises at the end.

  • Stellar Reputation & Referrals

Be sure to ask for a portfolio or photographs of completed work and referrals from previous satisfied customers of painters on the Gold Coast. Professional painters are proud to show off their work, and happy customers will always recommend skilled, reliable tradespeople capable of achieving a fantastic final result.

Professional bodies such as the Master Builders Association provide lists of trusted members with sterling reputations. Accreditation with such an association is always an excellent sign.

Using these simple tips will ensure you find the right house painter to make the task go smoothly with as little stress as possible. Even more importantly, your house will be protected and look its best for many years to come.

I appreciate that you listed ways on how to choose a house painting company. Now that I've decided to change the entire appearance of my home by doing a renovation, I thought about hiring a painter as well. With that considered, I shall then seek experienced ones and ask for a fixed quote to prevent any unplanned expenses.

You wrote that you should work with a painting contractor that provides a straight quote before they do the project. I've been looking to get my kitchen repainted, as the current paint is starting to peel in corners. If I could know what they were going to charge, I could hire them without any worry and could just enjoy my newly painted kitchen. Thanks for the great article.
