Many of us live in older homes, which is not a bad thing, but one thing you may run into is faulty wiring.

Switches or sockets that consistently give electrical shocks could indicate faulty wiring. If every time you touch a light switch, you get a good shock, it’s a sure indication the wiring to that switch may be faulty or the switch itself needs looking at by an electrician.
You might not be able to see when you’re wiring is failing, but you are very likely to smell it. Faulty wiring will often give off a burning smell, and you may even see smoke coming through the power outlets. Ring an electrician and the fire service too.
You likely have a shorted circuit or electrical fire in your walls.
Another thing you may notice if you have faulty wiring is discoloured switches and/or sockets. The discolouration is caused by a short in the wiring causing the switch or socket housing to burn, which is what causes the discolouration.
