Not everyone can live in a home on one of the new housing estates.
Many of us live in older homes, which is not a bad thing, but one thing you may run into is faulty wiring.
Professional electricians can help you if you are concerned about your home’s wiring.
How do you know if your wiring is faulty though? Nearly all the wiring in a home is concealed behind the walls − except maybe at the switchboard.

There are several signs to look out for, however, and if you see them call a local electrician immediately.
Dimming or flickering lights may be a sign of faulty wiring. Occasionally, you may have a light bulb in your home that flickers or just doesn’t shine as brightly as it once did.
If you replace the bulb with no further issues, that’s great! However, if flickering and dimming continue after replacement, you should ring an electrician.
Switches or sockets that consistently give electrical shocks could indicate faulty wiring. If every time you touch a light switch, you get a good shock, it’s a sure indication the wiring to that switch may be faulty or the switch itself needs looking at by an electrician.
You might not be able to see when you’re wiring is failing, but you are very likely to smell it. Faulty wiring will often give off a burning smell, and you may even see smoke coming through the power outlets. Ring an electrician and the fire service too.
You likely have a shorted circuit or electrical fire in your walls.
Another thing you may notice if you have faulty wiring is discoloured switches and/or sockets. The discolouration is caused by a short in the wiring causing the switch or socket housing to burn, which is what causes the discolouration.
Licensed electricians can verify if the wiring in your house is faulty and if it needs to be replaced. They know how to update your older home’s wiring to comply with current regulatory requirements.
Don’t wait if you have noticed any of the above signs in your home, call an electrician today.
