3 Essential Exercises for Adopting an Entrepreneurial Mindset

On the surface, entrepreneurship may seem relatively simple. However, once broken down, the level of complexity increases the task of organizing, managing and assuming the risk of a business seems to be a massive set of obstacles. Add in other daily responsibilities like taking care of children and the obstacles seem insurmountable. Success in all aspects of life is possible though. You just have to adopt the proper mindset and get busy, like Profitboss founder Adam Guild.

Here are three essential exercises for adopting an entrepreneurial mindset:

Practice Asking for Help

Asking for help is a hard thing to do, especially for individuals who spend their days taking care of others, like children or ailing parents. However, to be an entrepreneur, it is essential to realize that one person simply cannot do everything, and that’s okay. People often view asking for help as some sort of admittance of their own inadequacies. But asking for help does not mean you’ve failed at anything. It simply means that you are committed to succeeding. There are even organizations like Amway who are actively involved in helping entrepreneurs start their own business and find independence.

Find Your Happy Place

Stress is an inevitability when starting a business or setting out on a risky venture. There’s a lot of moving parts that a single person must oversee and orchestrate to get a business off the ground. Once the administrative basics are complete, and a business is up and running, there are myriad other things that the entrepreneur must manage, like building clientele, hiring a good team and fostering vendor relations. Amidst all of the chaos, it is important to take a moment to wind down and relax. An entrepreneur who allows themselves to get burnt out too early in the process will have a hard time finding success. So, before you set out to start the next Fortune 500 company, make a list of things you will do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to stay happy, relaxed and alert.

Remind Yourself Why

Every entrepreneur has a reason for starting a business. Some start a business for financial gain, while others set out on their own for the sake of independence. Whatever your reason for taking the leap and assuming the risk and responsibility of a unique venture, remember to regularly remind yourself why. Oftentimes, when a new entrepreneur is feeling overwhelmed or overworked, simply remembering the end goal can give them renewed energy. You started your business because of your passion for something or someone. Harnessing that passion to go on is a sure way to find success.

Becoming an entrepreneur and having success while organizing, managing and assuming risk for a business is hard. It is hard mentally, physically and emotionally, but if you learn to ask for help, make time to have fun and relax, and make it impossible to forget your mission, success is inevitable. Anne Sweeney, former president of the Disney Channel, once said, “Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live.” If entrepreneurship is your calling, follow Anne Sweeney’s advice by chasing your dream and building your business.
