12 Items You SHOULD Never Use More Than Once

Everyone loves to get multiple uses out of everything they own. While you can use many items over and over, that is not the case for everything. Here are 12 items you should never use more than once. This list may surprise you.

1. Disposable Razors

Disposable razors are good for on-the-go. Need a quick shave before heading out to an event or going out of town, then it’s the perfect tool. However, you should use it once and then throw it out. Not only do they become bacteria hotbeds, they can cause skin irritation and infections. If you leave them long enough, you will also notice rust collecting on the blades.

2. Plastic Water Bottles

Plastic water bottles are often marked single-use only. Reusing them time and time again opens you up to harmful bacteria buildup. Buildup usually accumulates around the mouth area of the bottle. This buildup occurs due to the difficulty of thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing the narrow opening and inner surfaces of the bottle, creating an environment conducive to bacterial growth. Be sure to consider the potential health implications of reusing plastic water bottles and to prioritize proper cleaning and maintenance if choosing to reuse them despite warnings.

3. Paper Towels

Paper towels are designed for single use. They are typically used to dry your hands or clean up spills and messes in the kitchen and other surfaces around the home. To avoid leaving behind any residue, it’s important to dispose of used paper towels properly. This also goes a long way in preventing the spread of germs and maintaining cleanliness in your living space. Proper disposal of used paper towels helps to minimize the risk of leaving behind any residual mess and ensures a hygienic environment for you and your family.

4. Disposable Contact Lenses

Disposable contact lenses have an expiration. They are not meant to be used for weeks and months at a time. They should only be utilized for a short time only, up to 10 hours. The main issue with re-wearing them is that they were not made to be resistant to bacterial growth. Extended use can lead to eye infections and serious damage to your vision.

5. Surgical Masks

When you think of surgical masks, you probably imagine doctors using them during surgeries in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. In these environments, sanitation and sterilization are of utmost importance. Surgical masks are just one of the many items they use for each procedure. They always use new masks because, after each use, they become less effective and can increase the risk of contamination.

6. Wet Wipes

Wet wipes are commonly used to clean up baby messes, hands, and sometimes to sanitize everyday surfaces. After one use, they are typically soiled. Reusing them would be ineffective and unsanitary. Instead of cleaning surfaces, they would just spread dirt and bacteria.

7. Tampons

Tampons are used during a woman’s monthly cycle. Once it collects blood, it must be removed and disposed of. It can only absorb so much and cannot be wrung out, cleaned, or utilized again. Prolonged usage or reuse of a tampon could likely result in toxic shock syndrome and bacterial growth.

8. Airplane Travel Pillow Covers

Most travelers value comfort. This is especially true for airline passengers who want to make those uncomfortable seats a little bit more user-friendly. One way to do this is through the use of travel pillows and pillow covers. While the travel pillow can be used time and time again, a safety cover over the top must be disposed of. Airline travel pillows are exposed to numerous germs, making them unsanitary to reuse without cleaning.

9. Paper Coffee Filters

Coffee filters are paper-thin. After one use, they become completely soaked with coffee grounds covering the entire surface. While it may be tempting to reuse them for another batch of coffee, it won’t result in a good-tasting cup. Instead, you will end up with coffee that has diminished flavor and quality.

10. Disposable Forks and Spoons

Disposable utensils often come in large quantities for a reason. While it may be tempting to use them time and time again, I don’t suggest it. Reusing plastic cutlery can lead to harmful chemicals leaching into your food, especially when exposed to heat. Instead, opt for a plastic alternative or silverware

11. Condiment Packets

There is only enough in a condiment packet for one-time use. Many times you need to use several packets of one condiment per meal. I have never heard of anyone trying to reuse them and for good reason. Reopened condiment packets can spoil quickly and lead to foodborne illness.

12. Disposable Gloves

Disposable gloves are used in many healthcare settings and even for cleaning. They keep your hands free and clear of contaminants. In a healthcare setting, they also assist in keeping gems from one patient transferring to another or other healthcare personnel. Using disposable gloves more than once increases the risk of exposure to harmful gems, and bacteria. Therefore, it is crucial to use disposable gloves only once and discard them properly to maintain hygiene and prevent the transmission of infections.

This list serves as an example of items you should never use more than once. Doing so exposes you to unnecessary risk and illness. If you value your health, then do not buy disposable. opt for more durable and long-lasting items instead.
