It’s no secret that travel, whether it be abroad or in the US doesn’t come cheap. There’s transport, accommodation, food, and, of course, all those attraction tickets to pay for. Even if you’re not struggling when it comes to your finances, it’s still worth finding ways to save on travel. After all, there’s no point spending money if you could save it to use for something else, is there?
The good news is that when it comes to saving money on US travel, it’s much easier than you would think. There are plenty of ways you can cut costs in all areas of travel; it’s just a case of being smart about it. Travel abroad is another matter, so today I’ll be focusing on US travel. Below are some practical tips that can help to make travel within the US more budget-friendly.
Drive don’t fly
One of the easiest ways to cut the cost of your trip is drive instead of flying. While flying might be quicker, it’s also much more expensive. The cost of flying to your destination instead of driving can be as much as five times the amount; that’s why it’s best to drive instead of fly. It might take longer to get to where you want to be, but it will save you money.
Camp instead of booking accommodation
Accommodation can be expensive, so to save money consider camping. The great thing about camping is that it’s fun, affordable and doesn’t require booking in advance. It might not be as glamorous as staying in a fancy hotel, but it’s much cheaper. In most states you can camp anywhere – it doesn’t have to be a campsite. However, in some areas wild camping isn’t allowed. So make sure to check beforehand that where you’re going wild camping is permitted.
Use an RV to get from A to B
Another option for saving on the cost of accommodation is using an RV or trailer. Of course, these require an investment to buy, but in the long-run they will save you money. If you use your RV or trailer each time you go on vacation, instead of booking accommodation, it will soon pay for itself. You’ll find that by using an RV to travel, that you’ll save on various areas, from the cost of accommodation to food. So if you’re a keen traveler, it’s something that’s worth considering.
Research deals and discounts
Before you go on vacation, research the deals and discounts on offer in the area. If you’re booking a hotel, look on deals websites to find the best discounts. If you plan on eating out while you’re away, look for deals and discounts for the places that you want to eat at. Believe it or not, most places run special savings deals during the week, so if you eat out on a weeknight, there are plenty of ways you can save.
Travel out of season
Last but not least, you’ve probably heard this before, but it’s worth repeating. One of the best ways to save on the cost of travel is to plan your trip to be before or after peak season. Peak travel season is May to September, as well as any periods when children are off of school. By traveling out of season, you’ll find that everything is cheaper. From the price of entry to attractions to the cost of food, out of season, everything is more affordable.
Want to save on the cost of your travel? Then take the above tips on board and implement them.
