Dry eyes are a major concern of today’s world. However, people still tend to ignore the symptoms of dry eyes, such as irritation, red eyes, pain in the eyes, etc.
And I was one of them who had no idea what dry eyes were.
For me, it was just a normal thing but later on when things got worse. Every day I woke up with red eyes, and I realized later on to consult the doctor.

The doctor diagnosed me with dry eye disease. So he put me under treatment and offered me a dry eye relief mask.
What Type of a Mask Was It?
Well, if you don’t know anything about dry eye masks, then let me walk you through a mask. The mask generally is of two categories- warm compressed mask and cold compressed mask.
The one which I got was a heated eye mask.
Many people in homes use a heated eye mask. They get a clean cloth and soak it in hot water and apply it to their eyes. It’s a great technique; however, people like me can’t make many efforts.
So, my doctor gave me the mask, which has an automatic temperature setting feature.
When I applied the mask to the eyes, it started improving my MGD, i.e., meibomian gland dysfunction.
It was a cause that my eyes used to be red all the time. These glands are quite small glands that are present on the eyelids producing oil.
The oil is helpful as it prevents dry eyes. The oil lubricates the surface of the eye and combats tears from evaporating quickly.
MGD doesn’t allow the glands to produce an adequate amount of oil. That means keeping away the moisture of the eyes and leading to dry eye disease.
After two weeks of using a warm, compressed, dry eye therapy mask, I could see the results.
The inflammation which I used to feel has lowered down, and my red eyes issues have vanished.
Plus, it’s said that the poor functioning of eye glands is improved by a warm compress mask rather than a cold compressed mask.
However, you should talk to your doctor before using any dry eye mask as the cause of the problem can be different. So might be in your case, a cold compressed mask is favorable.
Some Effective Home Remedies Which My Doctor Told
Prevention is better than cure; we all know about it. But only a few people implement the statement. Home remedies are surely not a cure, but it’s prevention.
So, if you are going through early symptoms of dry eyes, then home remedies can also be a great choice to make a fast improvement.
My doctor suggested some home version cures to make the treatment more effective and fast.
- Use of a Damp Cloth: As he told me to use a warm compressed mask, he told me to soak a clean cloth in warm water and apply it over the eyes. However, I didn’t follow this much as I already got the warm-compress dry eye relief mask.
- Using Tea Bags: Tea bags are not only for curing your dark circles, but they work tremendously for curing dry eyes. What you need to do is keep the tea bags in hot water and wait till they get a bit cool to avoid burns. Place it on your eyes, and after 2 or 3 weeks, you can see the fruitful results.
- Using Rice: Another effective home remedy is uncooked rice. Take a handful of uncooked rice and place it in the microwave. Take it out when it’s heated; make sure the heat should not be high that leads to burning. So I used to check the inner wrist before placing it over my eyes.
I understand that these home remedies take time, so if you are like me, then better to get the optometrist recommended eye mask prescribed by your doctor.
