When to Replace Brakes

When to Replace Brake Pads
As you apply the brakes repeatedly over hundreds of miles, brake pads tend to wear down soon, and reduce their ability to bring the car to a stop. But how can you know that it is the time to change your car’s brake pads? Let us tell you when the right time to replace your brake pads is.

Disc brakes come with a special part known as the wear indicator. This is a small metal piece which is attached to the brake pads of your car. When the material of the pad wears down, it starts touching the brake rotor, and makes a squealing sound whenever you hit the brakes. So, when you hear this noise from your brakes, its time to change your brake pads.

If your brake pads are severely worn down, you may be able to see deep, circular grooves and marks in your brake rotor. These marks are called scores, and look like grooves on a record. These are signs that your brake pads need replacement.
