Recycling is something that everyone knows they SHOULD do, but doesn’t always necessarily follow through with.  There are countless environmental benefits to recycling, such as a decrease in the amount of waste sitting in landfills and the conservation of natural resources.  If your community doesn’t recycle, there are many ways you can encourage your neighbors to recycle more and work together to make our planet a better place!

Start A Community Garden

Starting a community garden is a great way to bring your neighborhood together to reach a common goal.  If you’re starting from scratch, start by looking for a site for your garden.  Then round up your community and start planting! A good place to start is by planting fruits and vegetables that are in season.  When planting your garden, try using as many recyclable pieces as possible. Things like plastic water bottles, CDs, and even windows can all be repurposed to use in your community garden.  The next time you’re about to throw something in the trash, think about whether or not it can be recycled and reused in your garden!

Add Recycling Bins Around The Neighborhood

Sometimes, getting people to recycle can be as simple as placing a recycling bin in a convenient area.  Adding recycling bins around your community is an easy way to get people to properly recycle without having to go out of their way.  Common areas like parks, walkways and bus stops are all great places to put recycling bins, as these are most likely some of the busiest areas in your community.

Host A Neighborhood Clean-Up Day

What better way to beautify your neighborhood and do good for the planet than hosting a clean-up day?  Getting your community together to clean up your neighborhood is a great opportunity to bond and reach a common goal.  Aside from picking up trash, you can take it a step further and use hi vac services to remove any sludge and debris that may be built up in your community’s drains.  Whether you’re simply picking up trash on the side of the road or decide to go with a large-scale effort, there are tons of ways you can make your community’s clean-up day count!

Use Social Media

If your community has a social media page, such as Twitter or Facebook, consider utilizing them to get your community members more involved in recycling!  If your community does not yet have social media accounts, take the initiative and start one yourself! You can use your community’s social media pages to post about recycling, such as facts, statistics, and any other helpful information.  In this day and age almost everyone is on social media, so this is a great way to reach a wide audience and start making a difference in your neighborhood!
