Travelling is something that lots of people grow up saying they want to do. “I want to see the world” is a common answer when you ask someone in their mid-teens what they want to do in their life. Travelling is a great way to explore different cultures and gain different experiences. It’s also a wonderful way to learn more about yourself, to find your life’s calling. A year travelling can open your eyes and really teach you things you never knew before. There are hundreds of reasons you should travel, but there are also many things you need to consider before you go.

Table of Contents

Money

Make sure you have enough money before you start travelling. Of course, you could always get a job as you travel, but make sure you have enough to survive while you’re abroad. Also, make sure you get the best exchange rates possible, so you aren’t losing money. It’s important you know about sending money abroad too. If you’re strapped for cash, you may need people back home to send some emergency funds to you.

Safety

You must ensure you’re safe while you travel. Take all the necessary medical procedures and tests to see if you’re well enough to travel in the first place. Then have all the vaccinations you need to ward off any viruses from foreign countries. If you’re travelling with children, it’s vital that you make them as safe as possible too. Their immune systems are weaker, which makes them susceptible to foreign bugs and stuff. Also, make sure that you the places you travel to are safe. There are parts of certain countries that, for whatever reason, aren’t safe for tourists. They could have high violence and gang culture, so do your research and stay safe. Not every country is a great travel destination, some you just shouldn’t visit.

Plan

Have a plan before you go travelling. Decide on which countries you want to visit, and for how long you want to stay there. If you’re only going travelling for a few months, you’ll have to stick to a tight schedule to fit everything in. Some people choose to go travelling and have a plan but then scrap it. This could be because they find something that keeps them in a certain place. Could be a love interest, could be a job or a new passion. But it’s always handy to have a plan with you, so there’s some structure to your travels. Part of a plan is booking accommodation for yourself on your travels. Book before you get to a country, don’t wait until you’re there, or you risk not finding anywhere.

Have Fun

The most important thing of all; have fun. Travelling is a life changing experience you need to have fun while doing it. Enjoy every second while you’re abroad and capture all the memories on your phone and save them for life.

You need to be 100% committed and prepared before heading out and discovering the world. You can meet new friends and start new beginnings when travelling. It’s a big commitment but it’s so worth it, and you’ll never forget it.
