This little guide will get you through the essential steps on how to restore old photos and provide you with small tips to enhance the quality of your photos.
Everything Is Digital
Firstly, you will need to digitalize your old photo by scanning it or simply taking a picture of it with your camera or smartphone. Then, open it in the program and crop the torn corners, by choosing the Crop tool. It also allows you to rotate the photo, in case it is crooked. When you are satisfied with the result, click Apply.
Healing Is in Your Hands
Once you have removed all ripped edges, it is time to get rid of cracks and wrinkles, therefore, apply the Healing brush. Reduce the Brush size, if you are working on small objects, adjust Opacity and Feather to make colors more subtle. Using the Healing brush is easy – apply it to the area, let go and the result will be immediate. In case some areas are too damaged, try the Clone stamp, which will take another part of a picture nearby and apply it to the selected area.
Small tip: to enhance the quality of the photo in one click, go to Noise reduction. It will remove all the digital noise and make old pictures look new very quickly.
Stay Sharp
Old pictures tend to be blurry and fuzzy due to low quality. There is an easy solution to restore old photos – the Sharpness tool. Go to Enhancement and choose the Sharpness tab, then adjust the amount as needed. Zoom in any part to get a closer view of the adjustments to get a perfect look.
Small tip: if your photo is still not sharp enough, go to Enhancement and work with Contrast, Highlights, and Shadows.
Filters Are The New Gold Mine
Other great amenities are filters. You can choose from an extensive collection: the effects of Toning, Lighting and even filters from your favorite movies. They will help you to restore old pictures easily and effortlessly. Go to Effects and select a filter from the drop menu. You can play with them before choosing one – simply click on them and you will immediately see the result. You can also make an old-timey photo with the vintage filters.
Show Your True Colors
