The Serenity Switch – Boosting the Privacy of Your Property

If you have ever been robbed or had an harm come to your home, you know just how painful it can be. Your sanctuary no longer feels safe, there are claims to be made and damages to be fixed.. And you wonder if this could have been avoided? Effort and expense mean nothing when it comes to making your home more private. Crime aside, everyone should feel their home is a private place to unwind and go about your own business in peace. Consider making these small amendments to make you feel safer.

Assess you windows

Your windows are really the gatekeepers to privacy. You will not want to skip this step if you value security, and generally, like to get around the house in pajamas or enjoying the company of friends and family. Installing some window awnings will give you instant freedom, and will save on the hassle of lifting and dropping the blinds every couple of hours as needed. They afford you the luxury of having your windows open and enjoying a breeze, without having to make eye contact with your neighbor.

Consider growing a hedge

Hedging is a fantastic way to add some greenery to your home, while also giving it another layer of privacy. The beauty of hedging is that you can control just how high you want them to grow, allowing you to completely or only partially conceal your property. Hedging also acts as a deterrent for the bold burglar as it adds another complication and barrier to your property.

When you are consulting landscapers or nurseries, tell them exactly how high you ideally want your hedge to be so that you select something that will be an asset to your home. And if you think that hedges are all the same, thing again! Some hedges flower seasonally and others have leaves that can turn colour.

Install a gate or fence

It is so easy for you to wander in and out of a property with the absence of a gate or fence, but it is also easy for unwelcome trespassers to do the same. Installing a gate means you can be in your front or side yard without having to worry about who is watching. Doing gardening in the privacy of your property is so much more relaxing with a gate separating you from the eyes of the outside world.

Some of the more modern gate models are even more private, with key-code entry and remote access. Arriving home in your driveway late at night can be daunting if you have to dash to your front door with the whole street your audience.

Get security cameras

You may think this measure is overkill, but more home security cameras are installed every day as homeowners are more vigilant with protecting their homes, the contents and of course the family inside. They also send a message that your home is a private residence, and that it should be treated as so.

These can be as discrete or noticeable as you like, and wireless models will allow you to reposition the cameras as you need. Contrary to belief, it is nothing like Mission Impossible and you do not need a control room to view footage, you can actually view and control the placement of the camera from your smartphone.

Keeping your home private is something that is important to everyone. We seek solace and relaxation from our home, and when that is compromised it is no longer a home. Making some small yet significant changes will set you on the path to having a private and secure residence.
