As many thai dishes can be very spicy for the western palate, the sugar and fattiness of the cream can act as a cooling element when pairing with traditional Thai food.

The spice element that is added to Thai iced tea can be customized to your own preferences if you are making it at home from black tea.

This means you can choose spices to pair with whatever dishes you are serving your Thai iced tea alongside.

Sweetened condensed milk is a very western ingredient that became popular in colonized areas of the world in the twentieth century.

When appealing to western markets, it became a go-to ingredient to add.

Since Thai iced tea was developed in the last thirty or so years, the flavors are specifically created to attract western palates.

The overbearing sweetness can be tamped when making it at home by using half and half, mixing half and half with the condensed milk to dilute it, or by not sweetening the tea before adding the milk.

Thai iced tea is traditionally served over crushed ice, giving it an almost slushy like consistency with the addition of the condensed milk.

This makes it perfect for a refreshing treat on a hot day, with or without food.
