THE BITTER TRUTH ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS

It is no secret that shedding off weight and keeping it off is hard and there are legit reasons why.

This is the reason why people should understand the basics of weight loss and stop beating themselves up over minor setbacks.

On that note, below are truths about weight loss that everyone should know.

  • There are no shortcuts

Scout over the Internet and you will find various websites and adverts that promise simple and effective weight loss. They promise a loss of 10 pounds in 10 days! Impossible, right?

Right!

There are no quick fixes in weight loss. There are no magical pills. People have to put in the work by eating healthy and doing exercises.

Last year, I shed 10 pounds in two months through the warrior diet which is a form of intermittent fasting. It was not easy but with dedication and strictly sticking to my eating routine, I was able to fit into my size 8 dress sooner rather than later.

  • Your body works against you

When you embark on a weight loss journey, you are not only fighting your urge for food but also your body.

During weight loss, there is a significant decrease in leptin levels, a hormone responsible for signaling satiety and increasing ghrelin, a hormone that is notorious for stimulating hunger. This imbalance not only affects an individual during weight loss but continues long after you are done with weight loss, making it harder to keep the extra weight off.

Additionally, when an individual cuts too many calories drastically, the body will work against them by slowing the metabolism rate. Also, if you drop too many pounds over a short period, the body will revert into losing more muscle instead of fat.

For successful weight loss, everything should be done in moderation.

  • Exercise alone will not work

Many would be surprised to learn this but as much as exercise aids in weight loss, it will most likely not work if not coupled up with healthy eating.

For example, an average weight biker will lose approximately 369 pounds, biking for an hour. These pounds can easily be put back with a 70g chocolate bar. Losing a pound of fat will entail burning a total of 3500 calories which is no joke. Meaning it is so hard exercising your way out of a poor diet. This is why it is crucial to exercise and still watch what you put into your mouth.

  • Diet supplements do not work

Those little pills you see on adverts that promise to magically increase your metabolism rate do not work. There is very little evidence of their relation to weight loss. The secret is eating healthy and joining weight loss programs

  • Fad diets do not work for long

Numerous fad diets promise spontaneous results. Some of them do work in weight loss but as soon as you are done with the fad diet, the lost weight comes back. They work through calorie restriction but do not deliver lasting results.

Eat proteins, low-carb vegetables, good fats and cut down on starch and sugars; this is the only way you will be able to lose weight through diet.
