Summer Home Repairs to Keep Your Loved Ones Safe

During the summer is a good time to evaluate the repairs that need to be made to your home to keep you and your family safe. If you live in a climate where rain is evident in the future then now is as good time as any to get the repairs done.  Fixing up your home may include repairing your roof, fixing water stained ceilings, and repairing your garage door, especially if it is not working correctly. If you tackle these repairs now then when a major rain storm hits you’ll be ready for the storms.

Seal a Ceiling with Water Stain

If the damage isn’t that bad for an existing roof leak, you can usually seal the stain with a stain sealer and the roof will be good to go. If you’re not sure how to even tell if you had a leak, look at your ceilings for any brown or yellow stain on the ceiling. Painting over the stain will not work because the stain will most likely show through. However, if you use a stain sealer this will keep the water out. If it’s past being a stain and there’s a hole in the ceiling professional help is recommended so that you won’t have water damage in your home if and when a storm appears.

Repair Your Garage Door

If you have a garage door that is old or is broken it’s a good idea to get it repaired or get a brand new garage door depending on how damaged the door is. The last thing you need is someone in your family getting injured or a garage door malfunctioning and coming down on your car and damaging it. Stop procrastinating and focus on a garage door repair by a company that specializes in repairing damaged doors, garage door instillation and other services.

Fix Damaged Roofing

Now is also the time to fix damaged roofing, but only if it is safe to do so and the weather is ideal for being on a roof as well. A good way to see what is going on prior to getting on your roof is by going into your attic. Check for any signs of wetness by looking at your roof in the attic with a bright flashlight. The wet areas are where the roofing needs to be repaired. Just remember to be careful when you are in the attic and only step on secure areas – you don’t want to accidentally step on an area that won’t hold your weight!

Check for Clogged Gutters

One of the main reasons water damage in your home takes place is because of clogged downspouts and gutters. When the weather is dry and warms up this provides you the opportunity to clean any clogged gutters. Once cleared of debris, the water in your gutters will drain properly when storms come again in the future. If you’re not sure how to properly clean a gutter it’s best to consult with people that know how or hire a team that can come to your home and do it correctly.
