Staying on the right path can be hard sometimes. There are so many enticing things that could lead us astray. Curiosity can get the best of us and take us an unexpected adventure. In J. L. Baumann’s news book, “Mackenzie Goes Adventuring” we learn the valuable lesson of staying on the right path and an adventure is best understood with a good education.
Mackenzie Goes Adventuring
The book starts off describing the town, Snooktown. In Snooktown there are many Snookies that have various jobs. A brief job description is provided for each job. Just when school is about to let out, the school teacher warns the students about staying on the right path. Mackenzie decides not to listen. Just before heading off on the wrong path, Mackenzie meets Fred.
Mackenzie and Fred’s adventure begins. As they are walking, they encounter Snarfling Snarfle. Snarfling Snarfle is a beast that chases them. He threatens to eat them but doesn’t get the chance to because he stubs his toes. Mackenzie and Fred escape. However, that is not the end of their journey.
As they continue along, they meet a Shaman that protects the woods. The Shaman guides them until they run into Drynda, a guardian. Drynda takes them throughout the Great Snookie Hall where they meet the Great Chief. The Great Chief tell them how important it is to be obedient. After a few more stops, Mackenzie and Fred make it back home safe and sound.
In Mackenzie Goes Adventuring we learn the importance of following directions, being obedient, and staying on task. I really enjoyed the rhyming words and the very vivid illustrations. This book is spill proof resistant and tear resistant. Mackenzie Goes Adventuring is 89 pages long and has an intermission section in the book. You may not finish this book all in one reading, but it is worth to read about all the great people and places Mackenzie and Fred see and meet.
