Smart Tips to Help You Remodel Your Bathroom

Almost 13% of bathrooms have a modern design aesthetic. If that’s something you want for your bathroom, but you’re not quite there yet, it could be time to start that remodel you’ve been putting off.

If you’re not sure how to get started, here are a few tips to help you create the perfect bathroom for your home.

Set a Budget and Stick to It

One of the most important things you can do to ensure your bathroom remodeling project goes according to plan is set a budget.

More importantly, set a budget and stick to it! Almost 46% of homeowners who set a budget for remodeling projects end up exceeding it.

Don’t be that homeowner. Before you get started, draft up an idea of what you want your finished bathroom to look like.

What kind of hardware are you looking at? Will you need to install any new fixtures or are you doing a smaller update to the floors, walls, and hardware?

These design choices will play a big role in what your budget will eventually be.

Once you have a “dream bathroom” budget, it’s time to take a look at your finances.

Of all of the changes you want to make, which can you feasibly afford right now?

With a realistic budget, you can at the very least start your bathroom remodeling journey.

And if it’s not in the cards, this is a great opportunity to develop a savings plan so the bathroom of your dreams can more easily become a reality.

Pick the Right Flooring

Flooring is an essential part of creating your bathroom aesthetic.

That being said, not every aesthetically pleasing floor is a functional one when it comes to your bathroom.

Take hardwood floors, for instance.

They might look positively beautiful in your bathroom, but they might not hold up the way you want them to.

Bathrooms are notoriously (and purposefully) wet places, and since wood is prone to warping when introduced to heat and moisture, you’ll be dealing with more problems than you started with if this is your first choice for floors.

In most cases, tile flooring or even vinyl plank flooring offers much better durability.

And vinyl plank flooring also offers the advantage of looking like wood without suffering from the same moisture problems.

Make Necessary Repairs First

It’s easy to want to go big and do all of the aesthetic work first when it comes to remodeling your bathroom, but that’s not going to do you much good if there are underlying issues that need to be taken care of.

Considering that almost 10% of U.S. households have leaks in their plumbing that waste up to 90 gallons of water per day, it’s important that you get a plumber in there before any construction work begins.

Once you know what issues need to be immediately fixed, you can get those things settled before the rest of your bathroom remodeling project begins.

Remodeling your bathroom is an exciting project!

And as long as you have all your ducks in a row before you tear the entire room apart, you should be well on your way to a successful renovation project.
