Orange is the New Black, at Least for Food

It’s Halloween! Okay, not for a few more days, but I’m in the spirit! That means holiday inspired treats and dishes. In October, orange is the new black, at least for food! So here are some of my favorites.

Orange is the New Black

Since it’s October, that means orange foods are cool! I’m big into Halloween (and Christmas) so I always get excited when I can theme our meals and snacks too! Let’s talk about some orange foods that will be perfect to get your family in the spirit.

The Little Kernel

These miniature kernels of popcorn are packed with flavor! Our favorite is their White Cheddar flavor. While the popcorn itself is white, the bag is orange, so it fits into my color themed foods. These little kernels are so tasty, but better yet, they have no artificial ingredients, are non GMO, Gluten and Dairy free, as well as Kosher, so you can feel good about letting your child snack on them.

Bite Sized Ice Cream

My family loves ice cream! I like the convenience of My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream. It’s ice cream in bite sized pieces. Since we’re going with orange, I chose Sweet Mango. It’s sweet and tropical ice cream, surrounded by mochilicious dough. My eldest son is obsessed with this flavor!

A creepy tasty drink!

You can’t talk Halloween inspired foods without a drink. Bruce Cost Ginger Ale in Blood Orange is the perfect combination of holiday orange, and tastiness. It tastes like an old fashioned orange pop. It’s so good! My entire family fights over the last one, so that shows you how good they are.

Adult Beverages

While we’re on the subject of drinks, I have an amazing recipe for the adults. Let the kids argue over the pop! The adults can have the Cinnamon Orange Blossom Cocktail. First you’ll need some Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore. You can grab that here.

The recipe:

Ingredients
1 bottle of Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore
1/2 lemon
1/2 orange
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 cup sugar
3 whole cloves
3 whole allspice
2 cinnamon sticks
new drink
Directions
Rinse lemon and orange and thinly slice them, discarding seeds; quarter the orange slices. Put fruit in a 4- to 5-quart pan. Add honey, sugar (use the smaller amount if you prefer drinks on the tart side, the larger if you want a sweeter flavor), cloves and allspice.  With a knife, cut the cinnamon sticks lengthwise into thinner strips. Add cinnamon and 2 cups water to pan; bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat and boil gently for 5 minutes. Pour Prosecco into hot citrus base and heat until steaming, about 8 minutes.  Keep warm over low heat. Ladle into heatproof cups or wineglasses.
