As the world shifts to become more and more digital, more ways to consume media and entertainment are being created. One of these popular forms of media is the podcast. A podcast can be defined as an audio form that is typically delivered in an episodic format. Podcasts can range from a wide variety of topics from sports to video games. Podcasts are also generally more relaxed, akin to listening to friends conversing and hearing their opinions. Given how easy it is to consume them and their laid-back nature, it’s no surprise that podcasts have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years. Statistics show that around two-thirds of Americans are familiar with podcasting.  However, the question then arises, what are the best podcasts out there and what are our favorite to listen to?

Sports? With Katie Nolan

One of the most popular podcast topics out there is sports. This should come as no surprise as sports is one of Americans’ favorite things to watch on T.V. There are many extremely popular sports podcasts that cover various things such as game results, fantasy selections, and sporting news. With so many sports podcasts out there it is quite difficult to stand out from the crowd. However, despite this “Sports? With Katie Nolan” manages to fulfill a niche role by covering the lesser known aspects and stories from sports. Katie Nolan is best known for her appearances on Sportscenter’s Snapchat coverage, and she takes her comedy skills to her own podcast. If you’re looking for some unique sports coverage and some great comedy, then try listening to “Sports? With Katie Nolan”!

Cox and Crendor

Sometimes when listening to a podcast you simply just want to feel like you’re involved in a conversation with friends. This relaxed nature makes podcasts perfect for long commutes or for background noise to help you relax or fall asleep. One of the best laid back podcasts out there is “Cox and Crendor”. The podcast follows Jesse Cox and Eric Hraab as they talk about their day and various events going on in their lives. The pair also has various segments where they discuss the weather, traffic, and the news with plenty of laughs and comedy mixed in between. The podcast does a great job of not taking itself too seriously, which makes it the perfect choice for something to listen to in a laid back environment

The Daily

If you’re looking for a relatively serious source for your daily news headlines, then “The Daily” can be a great way to catch up on all of the news stories that you may have missed throughout the day. Michael Barbaro hosts this podcast that spends around twenty minutes each day dissecting the biggest news and then finishes with a summary of the world’s other major headlines. The Daily is great because it allows listeners to receive their news in the same way they would if they watched the nightly news, but instead the news is delivered in a more informal way as a podcast. This allows you to see the emotions and reactions of certain news personalities as they react to and discuss each individual story. Since the podcast is relatively short, only major topics are discussed. For example, the podcast probably won’t cover something like a drop in Austin real estate prices, but expect to see coverage of major political and world news.
