Matching Jewelry To A Dress – Tips For Getting It Right

You have recently bought a new dress, and you are going to wear it for the first time. How do you go about deciding what type and color of jewelry to wear with it? Do not forget that jewelry is meant to improve your overall look, and to add to the effect of your clothes. This is why it’s so important to make the right decision.

Our aim is to introduce you to some simple tips you can use, to help you decide which item, or items, of jewelry to wear with your dress. It’s not a difficult process; it just requires a little thought. When you are making your decision, check out the jewelry you already have. If you are struggling to find anything that really does the job, take a look at some Fred Meyer Jewelers and go invest in some new jewelry to complete your look.

It’s not necessarily about matching

We are going to start our tips by saying that it’s not necessarily about matching. You do not have to ensure that every color you wear matches. You should start by establishing the main color of your dress and then look it up on a color wheel. Check out the colors that are opposite on the wheel, and will complement your dress.

It’s also worth remembering that you do not have to stick to one metal or shape of jewelry these days. It’s fine to mix and match, as long as the overall effect is a positive one.

Think about the occasion

You should always pay close attention to the occasion when it comes to deciding what jewelry to wear with a dress. If you are wearing the dress for work then you will normally want to be a little more conservative with your jewelry choice. Even from a purely practical point of view, this makes sense. You do not want to get tangled up in an over long necklace every time you try to type.

If you are attending a formal event then it’s a good idea to choose more restrained, metal jewelry that fits with the occasion. For a party with friends, pretty much anything goes. You can be bold and daring with your jewelry choice; it’s your chance to make a statement.

Think about the neckline of your dress

One important thing to remember about wearing a necklace is that it needs to complement the neckline of your dress. Here are some ideas about the type of necklace to choose.

  • If your dress has a V-neck, try opting for a long pendant necklace that falls just above your cleavage.
  • If your dress has a sweetheart neckline, think about choosing a shorter necklace that makes a statement.
  • If you are wearing a dress with a crew neck, layered necklaces are often a good look.

All of these tips should help you to choose the right jewelry to go with your dress. If you cannot find what you want in your jewelry collection, then why not treat yourself to a shopping trip.

This was a bit comforting to read. I get so worried about trying to match every single thing when I get dressed. However, you're right that it's become more common to mix and match. For the most part, my problem might be in the fact that I might need a bigger variety of jewelry and clothing.

I really like your recommendation to consider the neckline of the dress. It makes sense that a high neckline would look better with layered necklaces while a low or v-neck dress could look better with a long pendant one. I'll have to remember these tips for when I buy my wife more jewelry because thinking of what she generally wears could be a good way to find jewelry that looks good with it.
