How to Improve Your Personal Health Conditions at Work

Managing your personal health at work can be a challenge, but there are steps that you can take to ensure that you stay on track with your personal health goals. These five tips will help you to stay healthier at work.

The Office Diet Busters

It can be hard to focus on personal health at work when everyone is bringing in calorie-ladened treats to share. It always seems to be someone’s birthday, there are always donuts in the breakroom, and work seems to increase hunger. Stick to your guns. Bring your own lunch and healthy snacks with you to work. Don’t give in to those diet busters.

Watch Your Step

The National Floor Safety Institute released a study that found one out of 20 slip and fall incidents resulted in a broken or fractured bone. Keep an eye on where you are walking at work, your personal health depends on it. About 4.5 million worker compensation claims were filed in 2019 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 15% of those injuries were slip and fall injuries. Keep your eyes ahead to protect your personal health on the job.

Bring In Some Cleaning Supplies

The COVID pandemic changed everything, including how we clean. Allied Market Research predicts that the cleaning industry will be valued at $111 million over the next eight years (by 2030). Keeping your workspace clean should be a priority to keep your personal health safe. A small can of spray disinfectant, some disinfecting clothes stashed on your desk, and, of course, personal hand sanitizer can all help to protect your personal health.

Take Frequent Breaks

Sitting for long periods at a computer screen is not good for your personal health. You should take a break from looking at the screen every 30 minutes. You should also get up and stretch every 30 minutes. Moving away from your workstation every 30 minutes or so and taking a five-minute break is not only good for your personal health, it is good for your mental health.

Hunching over a computer screen for hours without a break is bad for your back, and neck, and can cause headaches. It is also bad for managing your stress. Get up, walk away for a few minutes and take a break to protect your personal health.

Take it Easy On the Coffee

Caffeine is not bad for you in small doses, but you can overload on this stimulant and cause yourself a bunch of personal health problems. Most people know that caffeine is addictive, but what they do not know is that it can be bad for your heart, your blood pressure, and your vision. Caffeine is also a natural diuretic that can contribute to dehydration.

Limit the amount of coffee that you drink at work. Consider eating an apple in the afternoon instead of grabbing an afternoon cup of coffee. You will sleep better at night and do a better job of protecting your personal health at work.

Choose Where You Sit Wisely

If your desk is right next to the data center in your office, you may want to ask to switch spaces. The Department of Energy reports that about 8% of data centers are powered by green energy, which is great. However, it does not keep you from being exposed to the constant rush of cool air. Your body is a fine-tuned instrument that becomes acclimated to its surroundings. That constant whoosh of cool air coming out the data center’s doors can upset your body’s natural balance.

If you are sitting in an area that is too cool or too hot it can affect your personal health. Your body will spend time trying to self-regulate and acclimate when it should be spending time on your immunity and other functions. Ask your supervisor to move you if you find that the climate is uncomfortable where you are sitting.

You can stay on track with your personal health if you focus on these tips. Health is wealth, and nothing should get in the way of your personal health.
