Getting Your Kid’s First Best Friend: Why You Should Get a Dog

Dogs are some of the best, if not the best pets that we can get our kids. They are loyal, intelligent, but most of all, they’re extremely adorable. Dogs and their different breeds vary in terms of playfulness, aggressiveness, athleticism, and so many more aspects. There are so many factors to consider when buying your kid’s first dog that will determine whether it’s going to be one of the best purchases you’ve ever made or the worst.

Kid's First Best Friend

Getting a dog is a big commitment. You need to think it through properly because this is a life that you’re going to be responsible for. If taken care of properly, a dog will undoubtedly become one of the best companions, not only for your kid but for the entire family. Done wrong, a dog will easily become a child’s first heartache.

There’s an underlying importance in getting your kid a pet. This is an opportunity for your child to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability for another member of the family. Not only that, but we all have the need to be needed. And while this particular need is more emphasized during adult life, its roots begin to take hold during childhood.

This need to be needed is a direct explanation as to why young children are more likely to be helpful, even if they sometimes end up doing the exact opposite. For example. they may want to bring you your phone when they hear it ringing, but accidentally drop it in the process because they haven’t fully refined their motor skills yet.

Dogs are affectionate animals by default. They are as loyal as they are protective. It’s these traits that set dogs apart from other pets. Your child will have constant companionship as well as a protector. And of course, you can’t overlook the fact that playful animals make children happy.

Dogs also help you keep an active lifestyle. One responsibility that comes with dog ownership is taking your dog out for a walk. This is an important perk, especially in the modern age where the majority of the population is so mesmerized by their gadgetry and cat pictures on the internet.

There’s just this unspoken bond between dogs and humans. Studies show that kids who grew up with dogs are more compassionate toward other people. Children who are encouraged to handle life with care grow up to become adult who respects the sanctity of life.

Even aggressive children can be taught to be kind by giving them a pet dog. A simple pat on the head is more than enough to encourage a dog to be happy. When children are given the avenue to make others happy, that’s when they learn to become selfless.

So, if you’ve been on the fence as to what pet to get your kid, get a dog. You could never go wrong with a dog as your kid’s first best friend.
