If you are an avid Windows user who downloads and launches applications and programs off the internet every now and then, there is a high chance that you might have come across an Msvcr100.dll missing error flashing on your screen when you launch a program.  The Msvcr100.dll is one of the many Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files that are found in Windows based operating systems. These files are essentially a set of codes that are meant for providing support for different applications and programs.

By itself many of the dll files including the Msvcr100.dll are not important and their removal does not cause any problem to your system as such. That said, some of these files may be important for certain programs to be able to run smoothly, therefore you might get distressed if you are trying to launch an application and in turn end up with a Msvcr100.dll file missing error.

Types of Msvcr100.dll That You Might Come Across

Generally, there are five types of Msvcr100.dll error messages that might flash on your screen while you are trying to run an application.

  • dll Not Found
  • This application failed to start because Msvcr100.dll was not found. Reinstalling this application may fix this problem.
  • Cannot find [PATH]\Msvcr100.dll
  • Cannot start [Application]. A required component is missing: Msvcr100.dll. Please install [Application] again.

You might receive one of the above errors while you are starting or shutting down a Windows operating system or at times during the process of installing an application.

What to Do If You Receive an Msvcr100.dll Error?

If you are receiving the Msvcr100.dll missing file error, you have most likely got viruses or malware in your system which are infecting the file or the file has been accidentally deleted. However, the good news is that the error can be fixed fairly easily. There are various methods that you can use to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Before you do anything else, it is recommended that you check your Recycled Bin. This is just to make sure that the cause of the problem is not an accidental deletion. If the file is present in your Recycle Bin it will save you from a lot of time and effort and you will be able to simply resolve the issue by simply restoring the file.

If you are unable to find the file in your Recycle Bin then chances are that your file has fallen prey to some malware. If you are experiencing the problem only when you are trying to run a specific application then simply uninstall and reinstall that particular program.

If the errors are appearing persistently during the process of starting or shutting down Windows, it can be a tad bit annoying. In this case the best solution is to download the latest version of Msvcr100.dll file from an online resource. Before you proceed to restore your missing file, make sure that all your Windows updates are complete. Before you go ahead with the downloading process, scan your system for any malicious activity or corrupt files that need to be fixed. Once downloaded you can simply copy and paste the file in the System32 folder and you are good to go.
