Who doesn’t love renovating their home into something better?
Home renovations can be a lot of work and costly, but it’s worth it when you walk into your home feeling like it’s a new place.
Renovating your home can be a way to do out with the old and in with the new.
It can also simply be a way to fix some problems an old home picks up over time.

Know Your Renovations
While it’s fun and cheaper to DIY, there are some renovations that we’d recommend hiring licensed professionals to complete.
Electrical
For any electrical jobs, it’s best to use a professional electrician service. Working with electrical circuits and wiring without proper knowledge can lead to serious consequences.
If you don’t follow all the safety protocols and understand what you’re tinkering with, you can end up with faulty connections or fried circuitry and appliances.
In the worst case, you can electrocute yourself and end up in the hospital or with permanent injuries.
One of the most common methods fires start is due to faulty electrical wires and connections. Thus it’s important you leave any changes to your electrical network to the professionals.
Plumbing
While we’re not saying you can’t fix a leaky faucet or unplug your drain on your own, we recommend using a plumber for more serious work.
This includes installing a new toilet, piping, and other plumbing renovations. Having an improperly installed and connected pipe can lead to leaks.
Leaks might not always be immediately evident and often can build up over time.
In many cases, this means only becoming aware of the leak when the water damage and your plumbing system are almost beyond repair.
Often, it will cost you more to fix this problem than it would have to hire a professional plumber in the first place.
Tiling
While this is one renovation that might seem simple and easy enough to DIY, many things can go wrong.
Unless you have construction experience, we would not recommend it, as there are more factors to consider when tiling than you’d think.
You need to ensure your surface is completely even and that you use the correct tiles and adhesive.
You often need to cut the tiles into specific shapes or sizes to avoid obstacles like piping, sinks, tap handles, etc.
Roofing
While this is a popular DIY project, fixing any roofing issues yourself can lead to serious consequences. Not only is it very dangerous, but it’s also easy to mess it up.
One of the most common fall fatalities is falling from the roof.
Further, it’s very easy to see from the streetside if the job isn’t done right, like improperly placed tiles or uneven roofing.
If the roof isn’t sealed properly, it can also lead to leaks in your roof and nesting animals and birds in your rafters.

Structural
Making structural changes to your home is a big no without the help of a licensed professional. Simply knocking out walls can weaken the house as support is taken away.
If you’re adding on by building a porch or a similar structure, you can be fined quite heavily if you don’t take the proper steps.
Many people don’t have all the necessary tools or machinery to complete a structural change in their house and can do a subpar job.
DIY vs. Professionals
When renovating, it might look attractive to go the DIY route.
Not only is it fun to have a new project, but the satisfaction of knowing you did this with your own hands is immense.
It can also be cheaper than hiring someone else to do it.
However, unless you have extensive knowledge and experience in these fields, there are some parts of home renovation you should leave to professionals.
