In celebration of National Caregivers Day, I’m going to share some information about the products I use to help adults with special needs live life a bit fuller.

Depend ® Helps Caretakers For Those With Special Needs

Raising a special needs child isn’t an easy feat. It takes strength, faith and loads of unconditional love. While raising a special needs child, you never know what their quality of life will be and if you will forever be their caretaker. Raising an autistic child has taught me a lot about the world and people in general. I am now my son’s caretaker, as he’s 24 years old and still needs support from me as a caregiver.

Caregiver Tips for Special Needs Adults with Incontinence

Taking care of someone who experiences incontinence brings about a whole new proactive mindset. There are things that you should think about prior to taking your special needs adult out into the world.

Here are some tips for caregivers who are tending to special needs adults with incontinence:

  • Develop a plan for accidents whether at home or on-the-go. Always have the person you are caring for use the restroom before leaving to go anywhere and be sure to pack water as well as Depend® FIT-FLEX Underwear. Contrary to popular belief, drinking water can actually reduce irritation of the bladder.
  • Locate all public restrooms before leaving for a trip and make sure the restrooms are plausible options for a special needs adult to use, as some won’t use public restrooms. If the special needs adult you’re taking care of doesn’t use public restrooms, then make sure to pack extra incontinence underwear so that they can be comfortable and dry the entire trip. Depend FIT-FLEX Underwear now has more sizes than previously offered, so caregivers who may be tending to adults with dementia or other special needs can feel comfortable knowing their loved one can stay dry no matter the size or shape of their body.
  • Wearing the right protection can help boost the confidence in the special needs adult that you’re taking care of. With features like the all-around leg elastics and a smooth, close-to-body fit, Depend FIT-FLEX Underwear slip-on with soft, quiet and breathable material, allowing for comfort you can rely on.

If you or someone you love is a caretaker for their adult special needs child and is looking for a good product to help with incontinence, I highly recommend you look into Depend FIT-FLEX Underwear. My adult son has really benefited from the protection that ensures he won’t experience any leaks or accidents, which cause him to get quite upset.

The Depend brand is giving away up to 50 free Caregiver Toolkits, which include Depend FIT-FLEX Underwear. If you’re a caregiver and ready to try Depend products, please click here for your own Depend Caregiver Toolkit.

They are great! I only wish they made them in bigger sizes than XXL, We wanted to use them with my mother in law but they did not have them in her size.
