Being in a relationship can be a blessed experience, but it can also be a torturous one too. When you discover that your partner has betrayed you, you can often feel angry, lost, and hurt. And while those feelings may take some time to disappear, you can work on getting through it, one step at a time.

Although many people can think of one main way that a partner can betray you, there are a few different ways that this scenario can play out. When you discover that you’ve been betrayed, you need to be able to work out how you can bounce back, quickly and quietly, if you ever want to be happy again.

When They Cheat

To many people, cheating will be the ultimate betrayal – and that’s understandable. It will also feel like the most common. But that doesn’t mean that it’s okay, or that it’s easy to get over. But, it is possible to get over. Moving past cheating will take some time, but you can do it. Firstly, you’re going to need to work out why your partner cheated, then work on your trust issues if you plan on staying together.

When They Go Behind Your Back

When a partner goes behind you back, you can feel like you will never be able to overcome their betrayal; but you can. Perhaps you both agreed that something wouldn’t be done – like smoking or socializing with a set group of people. If your partner then goes on to do what they said they wouldn’t, you can feel like they’re deceptive – and maybe they are. But, if you want to bounce back, you’re going to need to get to the bottom of their reasoning and take it from there.

When They Rebel

Although you may think that only children or teenagers can rebel, sometimes adults can too. When that’s the case, you can feel at a loss. Say you’re trying to help your partner with a drinking problem, or you’re trying to get them not to drink as much, but then you discover that they do it anyway – and put themselves at risk by driving (people like DWI attorney Grant Scheiner can help with that). You might need to speak to a professional counselor to help you through it.

When They Lie

Sometimes, people lie. It’s not that uncommon, but it doesn’t make it right. If your partner lies to you, you can often feel like it’s something they’re trying to hide from you. But, you should also try to be a bit more understanding. Sometimes, it can help you to understand the cause of their lying – that way; you can iron out any issues and try to get your relationship back on track.

When They Steal
Not everyone will have time for people that steal from them, and maybe you shouldn’t either. But, when do you say enough is enough and give up on people? If you still care, and you want to help your partner, you might need to combine honesty and counseling to get to the root of the problem – as it can often signify something deeper.
