8 Unusual Thanksgiving Dishes That Will Become Staples At Your Table

Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away. If you’re like me, you might be looking for something new to bring to the table this year. We try out a new recipe each year and, sometimes, it becomes a staple at our Thanksgiving feast. Here are eight dishes you might consider adding to the mix this year.

1. Sweet Potato and Chorizo Hash

Sweet potato and chorizo hash is among the recipes I’m considering trying this year. This is a savory side dish that can add something special to your Thanksgiving spread. The natural sweetness of the potatoes combined with the smoky, spicy chorizo sounds divine. The recipe also calls for caramelized onions and bell peppers for a burst of color and crunch that complements the meal. You can also use the leftovers for a hearty breakfast the next day with eggs.

2. Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Pomegranate and Pecans

I did a brussel sprouts dish last year that might make a return this year – roasted brussel sprouts with pomegranate and pecans. It’s really delicious. There is a level of tartness that comes from the sweetness of the pomegranate. Paired with the earthy flavors from the brussel sprouts and the crunchy pecans, it just comes together beautifully. There were no leftovers of this dish!

3. Cranberry-Jalapeno Salsa

Cranberry-Jalapeno salsa is something I served up a few years ago as an appetizer. While everyone is waiting for the turkey to get done and having a few drinks, it’s nice to have something to munch on. This cranberry-jalapeno salsa is a great option. The cranberries balance the heart of the jalapenos nicely. You can serve it as a side, but everyone enjoyed it with chips while waiting for the meal.

4. Maple-Bacon Roasted Butternut Squash

Butternut squash is a veggie that many people don’t consider adding to their table for Thanksgiving, but this dish was spectacular. Roasting the squash with maple syrup and bacon really just takes it to the next level. The syrup caramelizes in the oven and it just enhances the squash’s natural flavor. And, of course, everything is better with bacon.

5. Truffled Mashed Cauliflower

Truffle oil can be expensive, but hey, Thanksgiving is a special event. Truffled mashed cauliflower is a vegetarian-friendly dish that is packed full of flavor. If made just the right way, it’s creamy, rich, and smooth. You can even add a little Parmesan for extra taste (I did). Garnish the dish with fresh herbs like chives or parsley and the entire dish just comes together nicely.

6. Parmesan-Crusted Green Bean Fries

Green bean fries are great for those trying to watch their carbs at the Thanksgiving table. All you need to do to pull this off is coat fresh green beans in a mixture of Parmesan cheese, garlic, and breadcrumbs, then bake until golden and crispy. You can serve them with a dipping sauce or just as they are. While I continue to prefer green bean casserole, these are still a great addition to your feast.

7. Pumpkin Risotto with Sage

Sage and pumpkin are two distinct fall flavors that seem to just belong on the Thanksgiving spread. This risotto dish is creamy and comforting. If you’re able to pull it off, it will bring something special to the table for the holiday. Check out the recipe here.

8. Apple Cider-Glazed Carrots

Anything to get my kids to eat some vegetables (seriously)! Apple cider-glazed carrots give the veggie a sweet and tangy twist. Best of all, this dish is easy to prepare. So, you can whip it up as everything else is cooling down.
