6 Acne-Inducing Foods To Avoid

Everyone from babies to teens, to adults suffers from some form of acne at one time or another in their life.

It is an annoying part of life and there is not much we can do about it.

Or is there? The connection between what we eat and how our skin reacts has long been a discussion for the science of skin caregivers.

However, there is actual evidence that avoiding certain foods can help to prevent new acne from forming.

6 Acne-Inducing Foods To Avoid

Of course, keeping your skin clean, using mild soaps, oil blotting sheets, and gentle scrub can also increase the chances of clearer skin daily.

Here are 6 acne-inducing foods to avoid for better, healthier-looking skin:

1. Dairy Products

This basically includes all products that are made with cow’s milk. The increase in insulin levels is the major culprit in creating ideal conditions for acne throughout the body.

This blood sugar spike worsens the sensitivity and severity of acne.

Milk is also full of amino acids, causing an overstimulated liver, which leads to more acne-prone skin.

Dairy products made with goat or other types of milk, like almond milk or soy milk, do not seem to contribute to acne.

2. Refine Sugars and Grains

This category is a bit harder to avoid because it seems as if everything contains some form of sugar or grain.

Rich carbohydrates are what a lot of individuals crave, mainly because they are delicious.

Beverages such as sugary sodas and juices, maple syrup, honey, cane sugar, white pasta, white rice, bread, crackers, cereals, and desserts made with white flour and white sugar are all tasty yet will contribute to acne breakouts.

3. Chocolate

This is one of the most controversial foods when it comes to the cause of acne.

There are several issues for and against eating chocolate for health.

There is no scientific data that points to chocolate as the cause of acne, although, it has been found to increase part of the immune system which produces acne-causing bacteria.

More experimentation needs to be done when it comes to this yummy treat and acne.

4. Omega-6 Fats

Food rich in Omega-6 fats can be a cause of acne in certain individuals.

These foods are linked to acne and increased levels of inflammation, which is what acne basically is, inflammation and irritation of the skin.

Most Western menus contain enormous levels of soy and corn oils, both rich in Omega-6 fats. A better option is foods containing Omega-3 fats like walnuts, avocados, and fish.

5. Fast Foods

Again, Western-style takeout foods contain an immense amount of refined carbohydrates, sugars, and fats.

One of the connections, scientists propose between fast foods and acne is that the contents somehow alter hormone levels and may change gene expression.

This could lead to the development of acne.

6. Dietary Supplements

Particularly whey protein, which is rich in glutamine and amino acid leucine.

These acids can cause the skin cells to grow and separate quicker, contributing to acne.

Avoiding or limiting these and other non-healthy foods can help to keep your skin healthy, bright, and beautiful for as long as you are using it.
