5 Thoughts For School Leavers This Year

5 Thoughts For School Leavers This Year

With the final school term of the year fast approaching and a large proportion of the world being in lockdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, it remains unclear how this year will pan out for school leavers. But we are going to do our best here to go through these possible concerns that will be worrying for our young adults. Here are our five thoughts for school leavers this year.

What About My Exams?

Students who have studied all year long in preparation for their final year exams will be understandably worried as qualifications gained at high school can have a drastic knock-on effect on the path that the rest of their life will take. Even when most students are finding difficulty with the stress of working from home anyway. So how are these grades going to be allocated when the exams are most likely not going to take place? There is much discussion on this in educational circles, and there is no one definitive answer, but it seems likely that most places will have to take an average of class tests and teachers’ predictions. This will, no doubt, be controversial, and it may lead to appeals and even legal challenges from some quarters.

Will I Get a School Prom?

The short answer to this is no. Well, the answer for the short term is certainly a no. We could say that this is not a disaster, but let’s be honest; it’s such a rite of passage that it pretty much is.  But there is no need to be utterly depressed about the situation. Even if reorganization is not possible for the original date, why not try and set something up for later in the year, it could also be a quirky ‘2 Month High School Reunion’.

What About College or University?

This is one that is difficult and is closely tied to the exams question. You may wonder if you are going to be able to take up a place that has been offered on the conditional basis of passing exams? Well, we can’t say for sure, but the university will likely take the estimated results for entry. Still, it’s best to check with the school you’ve applied for, contact details will be found at universities UK for most institutions.

Are There Going to be Any Jobs?

The jobs market is going to take a hit when almost all economic activity grinds to a halt like this there is just no way that it won’t have a huge impact. However, with governments at home and around the world offering business support, then it’s likely there will be a recovery.

How to Protect my Mental Health?

This is a very immediate and essential issue to be aware of. Isolation can never be good for mental health, and there are no comparable situations to this from which we can draw comparisons. There is going to be an explosion of need for mental health support afterward. We need to try and be supportive of each other in our families until this is all over.
