5 Terre from Florence

Have you ever been to the 5 Terre National Park?

Apart from being one of the most famous and preferred top destinations when you travel in Italy, the Cinque Terre (‘Five Lands’) are inside a well-preserved natural park, where humans and nature have found a precious equilibrium. Sparkling sea waters remind us this place is part of the Santuario dei Cetacei (Cetacean Sanctuary), a protected marine area between where whales, dolphins and other sea creatures are safeguarded. The Sanctuary extends for miles between South France, Liguria, Tuscany, Corse, and Sardinia.

Cinque Terre, 5 fisherman villages with a unique atmosphere

The southern part of Liguria, between Genova and La Spezia, relies upon an exciting landscape. The Cinque Terre are five picturesque villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Here, life is quiet and people are living close to nature. The 5 Terre are fishermen’s villages touched by tourism only in recent years. Farmers here are taking care of unique grape and olive varieties, grown on steep slopes, cultivated terracing and harvested with the help of pulleys.

Here, life tells us about an ancient and still vivid story, made of effort, creativity, beauty. Here humans struggled to survive in an area were building settlements was not easy. The result is a unique human landscape made of colorful houses latched on rocks that seem to be touching the sea.

How to get to the 5 Terre

If you are looking for a simple and easy way to go there, please forget any do it yourself journey. You can get there with public transportation, but only a guided tour will let you discover the best paths and find the most precious spot to take fantastic photos.
