Renaissance fairs aren’t just for adults with steins and drinking horns. There are tons of things to do as a family at your local Renaissance fair! The good news is now that spring is here Renaissance fairs are popping up across the nation like daisies! Here are some reasons to bring the kids with you to your next Renfair outing.

Dressing up Costume. What do kids love about Halloween? OK, OK, aside from free candy. Dressing up! Kids love dressing in costumes and playing pretend. Why limit it to once a year? At the Renaissance fair, they can join the ranks of medieval society dressed as royalty, knights, or peasants as they immerse themselves in an Elizabethan world.

Queens, Knights, Magicians, and More. Renaissance fairs often showcase a variety of family-friendly entertainment including jousting, magic shows, comedy shows and more. Apart from that, there are character actors that stroll through the fairgrounds in amazing costumes. The kids will have a chance to meet them and maybe even take a photo! The characters of the fairgrounds really make the whole experience come to life.

Eating with your Hands. At the Renaissance fair, there are plenty of handheld eats to enjoy. From turkey legs to meats on sticks, your kids will love abandoning their table manners for some barbaric eating. Pack extra wet naps to save your sanity, but leave the lecturing at home.

Archery and Axes.  It’s not every day you get to throw an ax or use a bow and arrow! Well at the Renaissance fair, your kids can do both! Practice your skills by aiming at targets for a fun and unique experience. These activities are suggested for older kids, but they’re lots of fun nonetheless.
