4 Ideas for Renovating a Small Bathroom

Bathrooms are notorious for coming up short when it comes to extra space. There are ways, however, that you can renovate a bathroom to make it appear larger or to add more storage space when you need it. Your budget and the priorities that you have in your renovation will factor into your choices, of course, but here are four sure-fire ways anyone can make a solid improvement with bathroom renovations, even in a tight space.

The Floating Sink and Shelves

A standard bathroom vanity cabinet and sink are just that—standard. While the extra storage space is nice, it might be closing in your already small bathroom. For the same amount of money, and sometimes even less, you can choose a floating or freestanding sink that will open up space underneath. Then, you can install floating shelves on the wall where you can store items that you don’t mind being seen.

As for items like cleaners and bathroom products you’d rather keep out of sight, you can either find them a new home (perhaps in a nearby linen closet) or invest in some kind of cabinet storage, such as an over-the-toilet unit, to keep things organized and out of sight.

Under-Tub Storage

Although most tub surrounds are fiberglass or another non-wood material, they can still be functional in some cases. If you’re installing a freestanding tub or a built-in unit, consider putting a cabinet around the base. While you won’t have much depth because of the tub itself, you can store things like cleaners, the toilet brush and plunger, and other taller items here. Make sure that you choose a material that is waterproof or rated for bathroom use to construct the cabinet, of course.

Distract with Tile

Using larger tiles or those with large patterns will make any bathroom space feel larger, even when it is as small as they come. Don’t overdo it with busy patterns or too many designs, of course, because simplicity is key when you’re trying to make any space look larger than it is. Glass and Mirrors

Again, you don’t want to overdo it here, but using glass and mirrors can open things up a lot. Consider glass or mirrored shower doors as opposed to a shower curtain that can feel like a divider in the room. Install a larger decorative vanity mirror to make space look bigger, as well. Some of these larger mirrors even come with optional medicine cabinets or storage attached, so you don’t have to compromise if you want both.

Wrapping Up

In any small space, less is more. Unfortunately, a bathroom has a very specific number of larger items that need to be present. Therefore, it’s going to be up to you to find ways to make the most of your space with bathroom renovations. Keep these tips in mind and use other people’s designs for inspiration and you’ll have the perfect bathroom in no time.
