Tips for the Mature Mom Heading to the Gym

As a mature mom, working out a Planet Fitness, I wanted to share some of my tips. I know it can be intimidating to go to the gym, as an older mom. Here are my tips to help you out when you head to Planet Fitness for the first time.

Know you’re not alone

When you’re going to Planet Fitness for the first time, know that you’re not alone. My first time going to Planet Fitness, I was nervous, but all the other members smiled at me. This gave me the confidence I needed to push forward.

Ask for help

There were a few things I was uncertain about when it came to the equipment at Planet Fitness. Seeing as I had not worked out in so long. I asked for help, and the staff was quick to help me out. Isn’t it awesome knowing you can walk into a place like Planet Fitness and get the help you need? Trust me; it’s a good feeling.

You get a lot for your money at Planet Fitness

I also love working out at Planet Fitness because I know I’m not spending a ton of money, but I get my money’s worth. It motivates me to get to the gym even more because I can afford it and it’s a great atmosphere.

Focus on functional exercises

I’m not saying to not challenge yourself, but we aren’t spring chickens anymore. For those of us who haven’t worked out in a while, we need to focus on helping our body work as a whole. A functional exercise allows your whole body to work together, an example would be a squat.

Make an exercise schedule

One of the best things you can do for yourself is make an exercise schedule. It’s nice to be able to exercise when you want, but a schedule helps to keep you accountable. It does take time to recover from an exercise session, so keep this in mind.

Know the best cardio options

Working out at the gym has taught me that at my age, it’s best to use something like the elliptical or the bike. These options put less stress on my body and help me to get in the cardio that I need. Of course, once I master these machines, you better believe I will be pushing myself even more.

Don’t forget strength training

Cardio is important, but don’t forget about strength training. Working on your strength helps you to stay strong and youthful. Plus, it helps prevent potential loss in your bones and muscles because everything is being used.

I haven't been to the gym for some time now and I'd love to choose the functional exercises. Having a schedule definitely helps you become more disciplined. I should really check out Planet Fitness.

The gym is intimidating sometimes and it's good to know what you want. I think these are all helpful tips. I usually join classes and I've always enjoyed it.

Definitely you want to ask for help. If you're not using a machine right, you're not getting the proper benefits from it.
