Autism, Some times it makes me giggle. Now don’t get offended. I mean it in the sense that my son’s literal comments are sometimes so darn cute, they make me laugh.

For instance, when he was 6 he asked, “Mama! Why do they call them speed bumps, if they don’t make you go faster? They should be called S-L-O-W bumps!”

And so he was right. I agree, speed bump makes sense! We call our son “Literal Liam” because of these comments.

I wish I had written down every one of these statements. There have been so many over the years, and I can’t remember them all. Thank goodness I facebook the best ones!

Here are some, I wanted to share with you.

April 2015
Took Liam fishing tonight, for the first time this season.

I caught the only fish.

On the way home we were talking about next time we go, what bait and lures we’ll use…..

Teasing I said, “Liam, who caught the first fish of the season?”

He replied: “not you! Probably someone else in the country since they may have gone fishing first!”

Well! ‪#‎LiteralLiam‬ strikes again.

I still say i caught the first fish.

Conversation Jan 25th : commercial is on about flying and black out dates.
LIAM: hey! That’s racist!
Me: what’s racist Bean?
Liam: black out dates!
Me: no baby that’s not racist…..
Liam: telling black ppl they can’t fly on certain dates is racist momma!!!!
I went on to tell him what BOD’s really are.

Me: Liam please go ask Daddy to give me a hand.
Liam: Yells : DADDY! MOMMY NEEDS YOUR HAND!

October 3, 2014

Liam brought me a black crayon. The convo was as follows….

L: momma this crayon is bad.

Me: what?

L: it’s prejudice momma!!!! Look what they wrote on a kids crayon?!?!

Me: no baby. Negro means black in spanish.

L: OHHHHHHH!!!!

“This crayon is prejudice mama!”

Watching tv and the guy said, “you don’t bite the hand that feeds you.”
Liam says, “why would you bite someone’s hand if they were feeding you?”

Liam just said, “mama, I know how ppl are serial killers!” I said, “You do?” his reply, “yes! They dump cereal on the floor, then they stomp all over it!” well…. alrighty then!

Liam has been super ornery tonight. he was playing and wrestling with his dad and he got mad and swung at his face. Luckily it didn’t connect. His dad yelled out of shock. I told Liam, “You can’t do that. you NEVER hit! Now go to your room bc I don’t wanna see your face!”
I forgot how literal my son is…. We gave him and us a few minutes to calm down and called him out. He walked out with his hands over his face. We tried to get him to take his hands down so we could talk to him, and he replied, “I can’t! you said you don’t wanna see my face momma!”

I can’t remember the date:

Me: Good night! Don’t let the bed bugs bite!

Liam: There are bugs in my bed! NOOOOOO! Mama, let me sleep in your bed!

The MOST embarrassing one!
August 2013

There are wild ducks at our swimming hole.
Liam calls beaks “peckers” bc he is ‪#‎literalliam‬ and they peck with their beaks.
There are about 10 ppl at the swimming hole.
I am trying to swim to the ducks.
Liam yells….
Can u see where this is going yet????
…………………………….
“Momma grab it’s pecker so I can pet it!”
….. And I died.

So you see, this is why autism sometimes makes me laugh. <3

Thanks for sharing, it gave me a good laugh! My four year old son (also named Liam) has autism and is quite literal as well and I often find myself giggling at his comments!
