  • Flatten the coffee filters and place them in stacks of five. Color around the edge of the top coffee filter with the marker.
  • Dip the paintbrush in the water and carefully brush the water onto the marker, pulling the paintbrush toward the center of the coffee filter with each stroke. Continue around the edge of the filter until the entire coffee filter is wet.
  • Allow the coffee filters to dry completely, then fold each stack of coffee filters in half and in half again.
  • Cut strips in the stack of filters, then cut points into the top of each strip.
  • Cut the point off the end of the fold, then carefully open the filters.
  • Slide a straw through the hole in the center of the stack.
  • Pull the top filter off the stack, bunch it around the top of the straw and secure it in place with glue.
  • Continue pulling each coffee filter up over the top of the last filter, and glue it in place until all the coffee filters have been glued.
