Weight Loss Hacks to Start Right Now

If you’re in Addiction Rehabilitation, you may be wondering how else you can improve your life. If your eating habits, nutrition, or weight have been an issue, consider trying these hacks for weight loss. It may even help your recovery to focus on additional areas of your health.

1. Try to fast intermittently. Most of the time, you’ll eat the foods and portions you’re used to. You won’t have to radically change your diet or count calories. A lot of people find that fasting helps them improve their strength and get rid of some body fat, all without making major changes to their eating habits. For two days, cut out carbs. Then, the rest of the week, eat your normal diet.

2. Get used to making food substitutions. You can still satisfy your cravings even while sparing yourself some calories and fat. For example, if you love potato chips, look for ones that are baked. Or, get used to eating pretzels, which are lower in calories. Love ice cream? Keep frozen yogurt in the freezer so you have an alternative to heading to Dairy Queen for a large sundae.

3. Just about every healthy diet suggests eating more veggies. Aside from being great for you, veggies are also great at filling you up. If you’re not a normal veggie eater, find clever ways to sneak them into your diet. Replace noodles with zucchini or eggplant when making lasagna. Make kale chips when you want a crunchy, salty snack. Use carrots to dip in guacamole instead of using tortilla chips.

4. Drink more water! Too boring for your tastebuds? Infuse it with fruit, like pineapple, or cucumber. Ideally, you should drink a gallon of water per day. If you’re not a water drinker yet, set small goals and gradually work up to one gallon per day. One great way to drink more water is to simply keep a glass near you at all times. Every time you’re thirsty, it’ll be right there within reach.

5. Eat mindfully. By paying closer attention to your food, you’ll eat less and you’ll make better choices for your nutrition. Look at what you’re eating, think about the meal, and eat slowly. Also, turn off the TV and other distractions. When you’re watching your favorite show, it’s easier to mindlessly eat even when you’re no longer hungry.

Whether you make small, gradual changes, or you try out a brand new type of diet, it’s never too late to give your diet a makeover. The best thing about changing your eating habits is that you’re in completely control of the food you choose to eat.
