Are you getting bored of visiting the same old Spanish towns when taking your annual family holiday? Do you fancy going somewhere different next year? Would you like to create memories that are going to last for a lifetime? Then you’ve come to the right place. Sometimes we all need to get out into the world and experience something new. The destinations you’re going to read about today are not in top ten lists for families. However, they will all allow your group to encounter a different culture away from English breakfasts and cheap beer. If you do decide to visit any of the places suggested on this page, make sure you don’t forget to take your camera along. Also, it’s worth doing some research into local customs before you travel. The last thing you want to do is cause offense to people unknowingly.

Vietnam & Cambodia

Both Vietnam and Cambodia were ravaged during the late 1960s thanks to ongoing conflicts with the US. However, the people who come from these places are more placid than anyone you’ll ever meet. These days, both Vietnam and Cambodia are beautiful countries with vibrant atmospheres. Booking at least three weeks here will be a wise move as many of the best sights are spread out around the countries. You’ll also want to hire a car to get from A to B. Alternatively; you could get in touch with a specialist guide company like Inside Vietnam Tours. That will make the entire experience less stressful and more enjoyable. It can be hard to find your way around when all the road signs are in a language you struggle to understand.

Russia

Apart from being one of the largest countries on earth, Russia is also one of the most interesting. The people of this nation are far removed from the cliche descriptions we read from western media outlets. Contrary to popular belief, Russian residents are just like you and I. They enjoy music, dancing, drinking and having a good time. The best thing about this country is its vastness. You’ll encounter lots of different climates when traveling here. The weather is Moscow is much the same as many European cities. However, you could travel north to Siberia where freezing winds and ice make the region almost uninhabitable for most of the year. Indeed, there are only a few nomadic tribes that still exist in that region.

North Korea

Up until very recently, traveling to North Korea was incredibly difficult. Not only did you have to fly to China, but you also had to find someone to smuggle you over the border. Thanks to an increased need for tourism money and more open government, that is no longer the case. While you still have to fly to China, you can simply get another flight straight to Pyongyang. This country has been mostly unseen by the world since the Korean war, and so there are lots of interesting and educational sights to see. There is a shocking amount of museums here, and most of your movements will be controlled by a tour group leader. Even though you can’t move around freely, you’ll still have an amazing time. North Korean people are some of the most humble individuals in the world, and they love to meet visitors.

Iran

Traveling to the Middle East when you’re used to spending your vacations in Florida is going to be a huge culture shock. Even so, Iran is one country everyone needs to see at some point during their lives. Unlike the surrounding nations of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Israel, this nation is pretty peaceful. Also, you might be surprised to learn that many of the cities in Iran are very modern. Western people have this misconception that all Middle Eastern countries are home to extremists. For that reason, you will be pleasantly surprised to see women and men of all ages going about their business in a free and unhindered manner. Iran is a Muslim country, but they’re not as strict as you might imagine. Some of the younger generation regularly swap their headscarves for designer garments. They are not unlike those you might encounter when shopping in your home country. There are lots of top universities here too.

South Africa

Immigration from the UK and US to South Africa had all but stopped until recently. Anyone with an understanding of how this country was formed will know that thousands of Europeans and Americans populated this nation. That means most of the people you encounter here will speak English. While that isn’t an essential element when choosing the perfect holiday location, it should help to make things easier. Your family will enjoy South Africa because it is home to lots of interesting plants and animals that aren’t found in the wild anywhere else.

Peru

Peru in South America is home to one of the oldest civilisations on earth. Traveling here should only be considered if you think you can handle the climate. There are numerous rainforests in Peru, and so visitors regularly spend weeks trekking through the jungle. If you do decide to come to this South American state, make sure you arrange a trip to Machu Picchu. Better known as the city in the sky, this area was built and then abandoned thousands of years ago. It is mostly untouched and a top sight for tourists. You can either book a helicopter flight to the top, or you can trek. Just be warned the trek can take up to ten days through treacherous terrain.

So, there you have it guys. At least one of those unusual designations should tickle your travel taste buds. When all’s said and done, the final decision is always going to be your own. We just wanted to present you with some ideas that might help to spark your imagination. You’re not going to spend your time relaxing on the beach if you go to any of the places mentioned on this page. However, you are going to see things only a few privileged people get to see. So, it’s worth considering.
