If you are a fan of Shark Tank than you’ve probably already heard of The Mensch on a Bench. Lori Greiner and Robert Herjavec were the sharks that took a chance on Moshe (the mensch). But they had one request – to make Moshe look happy like he does in the book. So this year there is a new and happier looking Mensch to take home to your children and help celebrate Hanukkah this year.
I remember last year I was looking for my own Mensch on a Bench had a hard time finding one. I looked everywhere. But everywhere they were sold out. But this year we will have our own Moshe to help in our Hanukkah celebration! Along with your very own plush Moshe you also receive a hardcover storybook. The storybook shows children how Moshe stayed up and made sure the light stayed lit. It helps little kids understand Hanukkah and explain the dreidal game as well as some of the traditional foods typically prepared during the festival of lights.
The philosophy behind the Mensch on the Bench is to bring more fun into Hanukkah. When something is fun kids tend to learn more and enjoy so too. There are blessings in the book for lighting the candle, for Hanukkah and for lighting the candle on the first night. There’s even a page in the back of the book to keep your families notes like when did your Mensch come to live with you, what was your favorite memory each year and more.
I know there’s more to Hanukkah than what is in the book but the book is a start. It’s a place for young children to start embarrassing the celebration and learning a little more about it. There are also additional Mensch on a Bench items; there’s a plush signing Menorah that helps teach Hanukkah prayers, a plush dreidel, activity book and even some chocolate!
You can find all these online or pickup your own Mensch on a Bench at a local retailer.
